steering damper (up-rated worth it) and Panhard poly bushes?
Hello

Following from my wheel spacers thread, My car is due for a service before we head off on our summer holidays.

While its its in the guy said he will swap the spacers front to back to check.

In the mean time I might source a new steering damper and panhard rod bushes.

I'm on nearly 80K now so the original stuff probably is a bit worn?

Is it worth getting an up rated steering damper? if so which one, I noticed a terrafirma one ?

The the Panhard rod bushes?

Is it worth going Poly for these?

As I changed bits on the car I've generally been upgrading the parts so what ever people think?

Thanks

I think feeling that the poly is only for race cars on circuit. It is my opinion only but for a defender i imagine rubber originals are better for comfort. Poly will allow noise and vibration.

RTC steering damper is a help for off roading but on road not nececarry and perhaps annoying. Bilstein B6 sterring damper from Alive is my choice and it made the steering very soft and enjoyable.

For info, I am well over 200k miles now and still on all original bushes and steering damper. I see no reason why the fact you've done 80k should necessarily mean yours are worn out.

I fitted superpro bushes to the panhard on my previous 110 and it did make a positive difference.

Are you sure the bushes in your link are correct for a tdci?

Flat dog have a good price on a old man emu damper at the moment.

Isn't the steering damper just there to stop the wheel getting snatched out of your hand when driving on rough roads?

I wouldn't have thought you really "need" one on tarmac roads, so an 'uprated' one would seem a bit pointless?

Having read your other thread about the wheel wobble I started to think back to when I had wheel wobble on A classic Range Rover and a Disco 1. I changed to steering damper and it stopped although the one on the Disco failed after 2 months which I swopped out and replaced with a Bilstein damper.
The current 110 has had all the suspension and steering damper swapped out for Bilstein's. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Really? I've yet to hear a good thing said about any RTC steering damper, and to be honest don't see the point.

It would be interesting to hear your impressions when you've fitted it.
