I always just buy mine from Apple, saves any hassle with changing suppliers, no contract to worry about means you can switch deals and I'm never convinced that you save much, if anything, by buying through a contract.
I think the business model has changed since the days when phones were overpriced to buy direct and then were, essentially, given away with contracts. Now the phones are pretty competitively priced anyway and there's no leeway in margins you don't gain much, if anything, from tying yourself into a long contract, especially not one where you either have to give the phone back or pay a lump sum at the end if you don't take out a new contract. Are you sure about that price btw ? None of the Apple iPhones come in at that price, a 128GB iPhone 7 is £699 including VAT and postage from Apple. the 32GB one is £599 including VAT http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

What about an iphone SE? I think it is the same internals as a 7 but in a slimmer 6 sized case?
I have recently a similar "discussion" at home and now my wife has had a play with my recent £130 Motorola she is regretting getting into a 2 year £34 a month contract just to have an iphone! |

I'm with you 100% I had iphones and swapped for android never looked back and save a fortune. She loves it, I spend on the truck.. so I'm ok with that... Just want to get the best deal  |

I've still got my Note 3 which has been flawless since I got it at launch, there's nothing much that I would spend money on but the SE Scot mentioned seems like a no brainer (if you want an iphone). 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Iphone SE is a great deal at the moment. Always cheaper to buy the phone out right, rather than from a network over time, you pay so much more from the network.
Check out https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ for the latest info on updates etc. Iphone 7 likely to start getting cheaper soon as iphone 8 gets closer. Iphone SE may get the chop then too, and 6 becomes the SE, but I'm just speculating, |

^ I agree normally... buy the phone outright and put our £10 a month sims in them.
Thing is with the Iphones they change the IOS so often it soon becomes clunky if you don't have a newish one. Her current one is a 16GB 5s and it's just painful. So I would think it's almost worth getting the newest we can so it lasts a good couple of years. The Sky offer assuming we stick with the 7 it is actually cheaper to do this time than buying the phone outright. The SE, I feel is a run out model, it looks exactly as her 5s so that will soon be dropped and it 128GB is £479 outright. so factor in a £10 month sim and additional £240 over 2 years. Sky = iphone 7 128 £768 over 2 years all in Apple buy outright plus £10 a month sim. £699 plus £240 sim = £939 over 2 years Apple iphone SE outright £479 plus £240 = £719 over 2 years ^ I think I may have answers my own question as in the Sky offer is a good one, just be good to hear anyone using it? less than £50 to have the 7 over the SE over the two years is a no brainer to me? If the 8 comes out soon then prices could drop a little but the 8 with me more again I guess and when do you stop waiting for the next one... |

You're right on the OS front. iOS 11 will be out in the Autumn (we're playing with the developer release at the moment) and quite a few features are only going to work on newer models, so always best to get the newest you can afford (especially if you're locking yourself in to a contract). Personally I always buy the phone outright. Had a look at the Sky deal and couldn't see one for £32 a month - I assume that's a TV subscriber-only thing.

^ Yes as a sky TV customer we get the text and talk free...
so just chose data which then rolls over what you don't use rather than disappears |

I have it with them, SIM only & a Sky tv Customer.
Very very good, especially the roll over. Good reception in most areas too, better customer service than O2. Not sure if it's an option for you, but consider getting a 0% credit card, purchase phone outright. Pay over xxx period of your interest free period and you have your phone paid by monthly install meant with very very little interest. Then you can have sim only. I bought my phone outright there and then, and went sim only. I do recommend them though.  âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |
