weird, have you tried to hook them to a 12v source directly (a battery) to test whether they are defective? --

Yeah, they do work... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Small update, I just found out, the brake lights do light up on the car, it's only the (low intensity) tail lights part that don't.
And yet, both work if I try directly with a 9V battery... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique. -- 2009 2.4 Puma Defender 90 SW 1979 Land Rover Series 3 88" |

If you are replacing a standard filament bulb with a LED cluster then that is illegal.
All obligatory vehicle lights have to be type approved by law. By replacing a standard filament bulb with a LED cluster you are doing an unauthorised modification and so are invalidating the type approval. The best thing to do is replace the complete light unit with a correctly E marked brake and tail light. Brendan |

Hi Brendan, I don't disagree, but I was merely gauging the water as I reckon complete LED lights are silly price, for what it actually is... (there is no more than a few pennies in electronic components inside).
And to be honest, I shall return those LED "bulbs" and remain fully standard with filament bulbs eventually, but I wondered why they wouldn't work on the Land Rover...
