2" lift, more like 2mm lift
Defender 110.

So I've installed the Terrafirma +2" lift kit (medium) to my car, and to my biggest surprise, it's almost shorter than it used to be:D

Well it's not that a big surprise after I've looked at the spring specs, and it is as follows:

Stock front: 15.13" / 215 lbs/in
Stock rear: 16.02" / 330 lbs/in

TF018 front: 15.35" / 230 lbs/in
TF019 rear: 17.12" / 300 lbs/ in

How can they advertise/sell these as a +2 lift kit?Smile

Now you would think BP or OME is better, but their +2" springs, especially BP have quite the same specs as the TF springs..

Now I see why many get away with a +2" lift without driveline problems.. It's because it doesn't lift the truck +2"Very Happy

So don't know where to go from here.. Should I put 2" spring spacers under the springs to really get that +2"?

You could alway add some Gwyn Lewis lifters at the back but 2''lifts are so last year 😊

So if I put 2" spacers under the springs will that give me what most call a 2" lift, or is that going to be then a 4" lift?

(I'm confused, because I already have a 2" lift kit, but it didn't lift the car, as the stock LR springs where already the ~same length as the 2" lift springs)

Will I get away with stock radius arms & propshafts if I put the 2" spacers under the "lift", but almos stock height springs?

Gwyn L also carries (or used to) 1" spring spacers. For the front spirngs you can add the rubber isolator+Disco II rubber retainer. So then there is no need to mod radius and trailing arms, propshaft, etc. Puma 110" SW

Because its not a 2" lift kit. It's a medium load kit, they kits are designed to keep your landy close to standard height when fully laden for your various activities.

I put a medium load kit on my old 90 (with half cage), that raised up by about 1" but it never carried much load and the original springs where sagging.

Fitted the same springs to my DCPU and it raised by about 1.5" plus the original springs where very tired.

If lifting 2" you can get away with standard everything, though I would extend your brake lines and spring retainers (top and bottom) to prevent any propshaft binding.

Pretty sure it's a 2" lift kit:) "This kit will give approximately 2" (50mm) of lift."

No, the springs are the specified length, they're allright. But my old LR springs were also about the same length. So if you have a 110 with standard springs, this kit doesn't lift it very much, because the standard springs are already tall. It might lift a 90 or something other that has shorter springs out of the factory, but it's not the case with the 110, that already have 16.02" heavy springs at the back for example. TF spring is 17.12" but not that heavy as the stock. So that combined you don't even get that 1.1" lift really.. So IMO it's missleading that terrafirma is selling it as a 2" lift kit for the 110, because it really only lifts a 110 around 0.5" max. A kit with 90 springs might lift a stock 90, but a 110 kit won't really lift a 110.

And actually the same stands for Britpart "lift" springs, as the 110 ones are quite the same as the TF springs, height & rating also.

I guess the only way to lift it by the springs 2" more than stock would be to put 90 rear springs (TF/BP lift springs) in the front (because they're longer than the TF/BP 110 front lift spring) and custom springs in the rear of a 110. Or with spring spacers.

But with all that in mind, if I put a 1.5" spacer under the "2"" lift springs, I'll get a 3.5" lift on paper. Which in reality will be a 2" lift max on the 110. That said, the same thing on a 90 might lift it true 4". So this is my dilemma now.. That everyone says that 2" lift is okay without propshaft, etc. modification, but what is a 2" lift? Because it's not the same on a 90 or a 110.

My experience is different to yours, when I installed an old man emu lift on my old TD5 it actually lifted it.

HD springs on my 200 Tdi lifted it as well. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

I don't understand then..

This is them side by side, left is a TF019 rear spring 435mm measured (specs also states this) - so 17.12" 300lb/inch, and on the right is the stock LR spring, measuring 16.02" but it's a heavier spring (330lb/inch).

So the freeheight length difference is already only 1.1", and the rating is smaller for the TF019, so there is just no way at all that this could give a 2" lift IMO. The only way would be to go for a heavier than 330lb/inch spring, which is TF011 if talking terrafirma, but that is a 420lb/inch spring - still 435mm or 17.12", but because it's heavier it might not compress that much, resulting in a 2" lift really. But it's way too heavy for an unloaded rear -which I tend to have.

I believe a true 2" lift from a stock 110 without altering the spring weight would be to have a 330lbs/inch spring with a free height of 18.02" - which noone manufactures.

That said, still don't know how high a 2" lifted Defender should be, or a non-lifted one should be...

A stronger spring takes more weight to depress it. The only way that what youre saying is true is if the terrafirma springs are bad or your old springs were HD or high rating. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

They were red/red LR springs.. isn't that the stock for 110 Defs?
