another service air/compressor plumbing query
hi,

I have a hopefully not too stupid question related to portable 12v compressors that i don’t think is answered elsewhere in this forum.

i have read these posts:

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic53023....compressor

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic53684....compressor

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49666....compressor

My question is; with this 12v portable warrior compressor (that i already have permanently installed under the drivers seat):

https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/accessor...e-20a.html

Do i need to worry about pressure release valves or any other one-way valve type arrangements if i try and plumb in the ARB tyre inflation kit airline? Or is it as straightforward as simply getting the right combination of 1/4 NPT vs. 1/4 BSP converters and male/female couplers to reverse the connection set up? (i don’t have and don’t need a receiver or a manifold - i would run it directly off the pump output)

The warrior compressor is female quick release coupler on the airline (tool eqv. end) and male straight off the pump whereas the ARB kit is the more standard male on the tool/female on the pump side…

I’m inclined to the convenience of a fixed/panel mounted female quick release coupler and the ARB kit offers that…

Thanks for any steer.

Cheers

Joe

righto - answered my own question so for the record in case of anyone contemplating anything similar beware the difference between "standard" and "flow through" tyre chucks...

ARB is a "standard" chuck - seals the airline when not triggered.

Cheap and cheerful compressors such as my warrior unit need a "flow through" chuck to avoid pressurising the airline as they miss any integrated pressure cut-off switch. (Alternatively faff about adding a pressure switch)

An importance difference to learn in theory before destroying the thing in practise...

lesson 1. let sleeping dogs lie (what I have works)
lesson 2. RTFM
lesson 3. when it wears out buy a complete kit of complementary parts and stick to my day job.

hi huffhuff,

So at this moment I just have the warrior kit as it came including the "flow through airline" it came with - its a bit crappy feeling but the gauge isn't too inaccurate (though it is a coarse scale) and I have a digital gauge for double checking anyway. Its pretty quick (~1min) over the 10PSI range I'm interested in.

I've stripped the compressor part itself down to the basic pump part and junked all the "packaging" plastic parts and the wiring and completely inappropriate switching it comes with. I've replaced all the wiring with a more permanent and appropriate set up bringing a switch out to the drivers B post via a relay.

Currently the warrior kit airline comes up out of the seatbox and sits in a little bag behind the seat. What I was trying to achieve with the ARB kit was to bring a fixed quick release female coupler also to the drivers B post area (as per JST's installation in one of those links above) but that will wait now I think until I kill what I have then swap over lock stock and barrel to something like the ARB CMKA12 and complementary ARB ancillaries. When that happens I'll install the ARB kit in the electrical set-up I have now but it will naturally bring with it the necessary pressure cut off switch and male/female quick release coupler orientations etc. to basically have a plug and play solution (more suited to my skill level in this area)and at a higher level of quality.

Cheers
