Howzit Bruce, I am looking to re-do the carpets in my Defender 90. I have pulled the inward facing seats out and want to have a new carpets in the back to fill the gaps. I wouldnt mind ordering over the internet from the UK but I am worried about the duties that I will be slapped with when the stuff hits South Africa! Any suggestions? Have you just coughed up on the things you have ordered? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers |

Howzit bud........
I dont honestly know how it works as sometimes I get charged VAT and sometimes I dont. IIRC when I ordered the carpets, I was charged around R380 extra when I collected it, but that included a steering wheel and some other bits and pieces also. Either way every time I have ordered it has been far cheaper than buying locally. Bit-car has really given me great service and they are friendly to deal with also. IIRC the guys name I dealt with is Ben - great guy and very helpful and dare i say the best UK company I have dealt with when ordering from them. I ordered some stainless steel firewall air vent hinge bolts off the net the other day... got hammered a fair wack on duties. I wanted to test on something small before I splurge on the list of kit I need.
Did you get the stuff delivered to a personal address or P.O. Box via post or was it couriered? Agreed re buying locally. Plus we dont have half the cool kit the guys are making in the UK for Defenders!!! |

I had all the stuff delivered to my work address. The one time I picked it up is when they needed to have payment before releasing the parcel. (that was the carpets) The most ive ever paid has been SA VAT, so it will be easy for you to budget on that. (ive ordered everything from electronic's to spares and modification bits and pieces)
My last shipment which was just over R6k worth, i didnt get charged anything. Dont know why but Im not complaining.
