Well, my GG ATs (new pattern) in 235/85 x 16 certainly have m+s printed on the sidewall.

OK, excuse my ignorance - What's the significance of the snowflake, over the m+s rating?

The Mountain snowflake is the officially recognised symbol for "Winter"rated tyres
Takes away the debate re M+S markings which some territory's don't understand /recognise |

What was the outcome of this regarding the split tyre walls?

The outcome is in the original post?
Bottom line is that continental said get stuffed. I did more research and found that this had happened on quite a few occasions to a number of people. Next thing the pattern has been canned and they release an "all new" one. So make of that what you will. But I'd never have contintental tyres again. |

I was always on the understanding that at one time the Continental brand was a cheapo brand however of recent years advertising as a premium brand. Personally I'm glad I got the BFG's but it's hard luck to be told that by a big company that you've shelled out plenty of money to for basically defective and perhaps dangerous goods.

I did ask for them back so I could look into it further. However they apparently had chopped them all up. Again, make of that what you will. They just stonewalled me basically, and it was the retailer who gave me the money back.
I think Cooper is now the only family owned and run firm left in the tyre business. I run Discoverer STTs on the landcruiser and they have really taken some abuse and stood up beautifully without so much as a puncture. They're also not noisy on tarmac and have incredibly stiff sidewalls, yet still are cheaper by a fair bit than BFG (who have changed all the compounds by the way) |

There is something very weird with this snow flake. Not all Grabber AT2's have the snow flake. Further, all the tests that I have read about this tire say that they are not good for wintry conditions because they are made of a very hard rubber composition. Real winter tires are made of a softer compound which remains sufficiently flexible at below 7°C temps. How is it possible that a tire manufacturer produces one tire type, in this case the AT2, with and also without snowflake. Strange to say the least. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
