coolant colour?

Hi.

Seller of my 2003 td5 told me he had put texaco oat 50/50 coolant but the water in the reservior looked orange/greenish.

It has been around for nearly a month now. i am concerned it might be the cheap green coolant. i might flush system later on in JUNE. If it was cheap non OAT coolant would there be great damage done in the past few months?

I was at a texaco agent today and i asked if it could change colour and he told me that the red coolant changes colour to green when in engine.. is this right?

Thanks.

Please find attached a photo of some water in coolant cap. The seller did give me a half full coolant can with red coolant still in.

No it does not change colour unless it is contaminated with oil, or some other liquid (like green coolant). Any damage would be negligeable if it were only for a short period. The issue is that mixing these can cause the coolant to thicken and not circulate well. Clean it out, flush it and refill it properly as soon as possible. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

The colour is often nonsense, as you can have coolants of all varieties dyed in all colours! The most reliable way is to flush and refill. Fortunately a td5 is a very easy engine to flush, unfortunately it takes about 14l to refill it Laughing

my concerns are whether it is the glyco mix as used in older motors.. i have read it can destroy the oil cooler???

i will buy an OAT mix and flush. i am still wondering if i do a whole body lift to properly paint the chassis and do another flush there. i am not sure though. i dont want to spent too much money it takes a whole lot of coolant.
