Advise on spraying kitchen doors please
Hi all,
As we choose not to afford a complete new kitchen, we have decided to paint the door fronts,
I'm happy to remove them and rub down to get a good key,
I was looking to hang them in the garden on a suitable day, and using a largish compressor and a spray gun , paint um all,

But I have no idea what kind of paint I need ? And will I need to primer them first ?

The colour will be a off white,

There currently a laminate / melamine finish on them, in good condition though

Any hints n tips appreciated as always,

We have looked for replacement doors instead, but finding it very hard to get a full set,

Thanks again Thumbs Up

You will need a special paint for the melamine surface. Researched doing mine - our local furniture restorer/recycler sells a paint which is supposed to go straight on to melamine type surfaces. Seen it in the shop and it seems to work. Cannot remember the name but will get details next time I am in town.

Most importantly is to use a melamine primer. I did something similar years ago and the first few doors used a universal primer and had real trouble with adherence; the remainder were painted with a melamine primer and top coated with normal gloss and were fine. They were brush painted so not sure how much thinning and with what the melamine primer would need as the paint I used was oil based. Likely that there's a water based product now though. I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
