Looking for a Diagnostic solution
So far I haven't need aything as yet, my nearest diagnostic system is 1100km away though.

I was wondering what the best reasonably priced solution for diagnostics software is for the Puma. Realistically I need to be able to interogate ECU, read & clear all faults, including instrument cluster and alarm as well as ABS. Don't need to do remapping.
I have RovacomLite from my Td5 Disco so I'm familiar with this but my understanding is they're CANbus solution for the Puma is still limited.
Scangauge is another option I've seen mentioned, again I've been told this doesn't really get to the fault codes and all ECU's properly.
An e-mail a while back to Nanocom said maybe Sept 08 (nothing yet though).

What's every one else using?
Is Faultmate the way to go?
What are the alternatives? 110 2.4TDCi

NO - never to faultmate - (or any other of their products - i didnt heed the advice 1st time, i sure well will the second time).

Worth looking for my past post on this.

Blackbox anything = avoid
Autologic = fantastic but its £ is greater than youll ever need
The T4 (land rovers old own) is developing F2's and Defender soon that will be around the £800 mark
Nanocom told me there werent starting to develop until Sep 08 so that could be 6 months off.

Me im waiting for the latter 2 Any of the others dont integrate with the instrument control etc very well Mike

Mike, you obviously had a bad time with Blackbox! Anyway if they are selling something that is still "under development" it doesn't help me.

Autologic - Yep, VERY expensive option for a single vehicle.
Nanocom - I've sent them another query to enquire about the status of any development

Didn't know about the T4 (Omitec??) is this the hand held unit they call an OmiNspect Confused 110 2.4TDCi

Your rovacom will do the 10AS and the ABS on the puma, its the same system as the TD5.

I cant help you with the instrument cluster after market diag tool but i can for the engine as you have probrabaly seen already.

The instrument cluster will generaly not ever have any problems that can stop the car from running.

Thanks Pete,

Only issue with Rovacom is I'd have to buy the 10AS and ABS licences as all my licences are for the Disco2 Td5. At that point it's actually better to buy a Faultmate for the Puma since the key requirement I need is the engine. My only issue is that - from what I understand - Blackbox are still developing the CANbus system for the Puma and it won't do everything as yet.

I looked at your remapping interface, but can't seem to see your web site properly (doesn't seem to load fully in Safari). Can you email a brochure or more info - dm_td5 @ yahoo.com.au 110 2.4TDCi

What is Safari ?

I only know Internet explorer and firefox loool.
If you are only after diagnostics i dont think this is the kit for you.
This tool will only give the generic P codes which you would look up on a table for the explnation.
I could do you a deal on the tool with nomapping BUT i think it will not be cost effective for you to use it.

BAS Re-Map Interface £645+Vat
08/08/2008
New BAS Re-map programming interface is designed to give you the customer full control over your remap !!

Ideal for the LandRover Defender Puma 2.4TDCI and many more in the Land Rover range.
Giving you the capability to program / remap your car your self from standard to tuned and vise verse as you wish and as many times as you wish.
Built into the remapping tool is also a basic engine diagnostic fault code reader, it will read and erase the engine fault codes you may or may not have in your engine management system.

This is particularly handy if you are going on a Land Rover overland adventure and want to take some backup diagnostic tools.

You the customer will be able to choose when ever you wish out of the maps provided and program the car accordingly whether it be back to standard for a dealer visit or leaving it in tuned state for a day out off roading.

The unit is yours to keep for ever after you have paid for it and is dedicated to your car personally so you know you are getting a personal performance remap download.

Step 1 : Order B-A-S map switching programming module and receive it in the post.
Step 2 : With the software provided installed on your PC you will choose your car make and model from the list in the software. Link for download
Step 3 : Program the B A S switching programming module with your car choice.
Step 4 : Remove module from PC and connect to the car OBD Diagnostic port,

Make your selection to read the ECU from the list and you will be prompted to press Y to read the ecu.
Step 5 : Re connect the B-A-S switching programming module with your PC and download the file.
Step 6 : Email/Upload me the file for tuning and modification making sure you tell me the full cars details and intended use.
Step 7 : Upload the tuned file i send you back to the B-A-S switching programming module with the PC's software.
Now the B A S switching programming module will have 2 files inside it, STD & TUNED.
Step 8 : Connect to your car and program modified tuned file.

Once the B A S switching programming module is programmed with the relevant Standard & Tuned re map files for your car there is no longer a use for your PC and the software.
You can change between maps as many times as you wish in the future.

This tool is available for many models here are just some in the LandRover range:

RangeRover 3.6TDV8
RangeRover Sport 2.7TDV6

Safari - Apple web browser about 5 months back I ditched Vista and bought an iMac Very Happy

Some web pages just don't like - good example would be LR GTR Sad

Anyway, I think you are right, your solution isn't really cost effective for me. I'll definitely keep it in mind though. I haven't considered remapping as the Puma is only 2 months old and out performs my old mapped Td5 Disco anyway. That said if there's nothing else I can get that will give me access to all EMS codes and clear them then I'll be back in touch. I need something for the just in case moment.

Thanks 110 2.4TDCi

Has there been any development in this field? I too need an affordable, portable diagnostic tool and have heard good things about Blackbox faultmate, but don't know if it covers the Puma.

Thanks!

I had really bad experiences and im NOT sure i would want to go back to those bunch of crooks but may if the solution was good/the only one to fully work.

That said many people say many bad things. Mike

It works if that's what you mean LOL

It's like a tin of Ronseal , it does what it says on the tin.

I think more options and addons will come soon also.

Crooks is a bit harsh tho

Crooks was a toned down version

Well it works is a start i suppose - does it now work with all the options eg: Alarm, engine ECU, ABS/TC and instrument pack (or whatever its called) Mike

This is what I have been worried about with the CANbus system and the Puma. I have RovacomLite from my D2 and it worked well, but I couldn't get any confirmation from BBS that their Faultmate worked as effectively with the Puma. All they would tell me was that the Alarm and ABS were the same as the Td5 which I already knew but nothing about the ECM or anything about BCU.

The B-A-S unit displays and clears the ECM DTC's and this is the main concern for remote travel as they are the real show stoppers. My understanding is that a fault in Wabco D unit will not stop the brakes working so you can still drive and stop. 110 2.4TDCi
