Improved braking - help needed
I want to improve stopping power after some Censored pulled out on me while i was enthusiastically accelerating away from the lights, the turbo was still running under hard braking which didn't help.... Shocked ! I managed to avoid the young lad in question who thought that he'd pull out in front of a Defender 90 obviously convinced he'd be able to out accelerate me in his noddy car Rolling Eyes

So anybody use drilled and grooved disks? Are they a big improvement over the standard disks? What pads work well with these?

Using grooving and drilling holes in the disks will not install you more breaking power. They will help the power you have last longer because breaking can fade with heat generation.

The only way for more power to stopping is to put in breaks that are bigger than before. More large calipers pots and more large disks with more large pads for larger contact area and pushing force.

Just stripping down your existing brakes and freeing them all up, brake fluid change etc will make a big difference. Even with standard brakes in good order you can easily lock the wheels up, but then it's down to your tyre choice, more agressive tread patterns don't generally offer such good stopping distances on tarmac compared to pure road tyres.

As you have a 90, then you may well have solid front discs. You could fit the vented discs and calipers from a 110 on the front if you wanted.
