They are not directional I've just had two turned on the rims so they wear evenly after a tracking issue was resolved. Check for tread blocks becoming cracked on the old inside edge.

I swap FNS with ROS and FOS with RNS every 6 months (15 thousand miles) or so. I don't bother with the spare though, just the four on the ground.
I run KM2s and find that this keeps the tread blocks even. |

Won't you need a set of four axle stands to do that? I was going to until I had this tyre cut issue. I don't think there is a need to excessively swap around but saying that I only do about 8k miles a year though. As usual B-W's advice in my opinion sounds around spot on to me. Reminds me I need another pair of Sealy axle stands 👍🏻 No Guts, No Glory.

I've never rotated my km2s and find they wear pretty equally. 20k miles on them. When I buy a new set, I'll swap the spare onto the truck. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Indeed, no point on a permanent 4x4.
The fronts will wear slightly faster but it depends on your driving style. |

Thanks blackwolf Will do the same then, but will swap in the spare so they all get an even run as I plan to upgrade to the KM2s at a later date. Any idea how long the MT/Rs will last in terms of mileage & age? |

Hey custom90steve, thanks for your comment. I'll probably ask for a favour at the LR dealership when I get STC50301 fitted |

Thanks for your comment ChrisWoods I plan to change to the KM2s when I'm done with these so I won't be able to swap the spare in. |

Thanks Retroanaconda, will compare the wear between them at 15k; may expose any alignment issues. |

In terms of mileage and age I am on the original set at 4 years and 48000. Due to change when I rustle up the time effort and cash. Rears will probably do anther 10000 but fronts are definitely due because of worn edges. All four will be replaced at the same time. One new one will go as the spare and the unused spare will be a road wheel.

To address a few of the points raised above:-
- When I swap mine round I use a couple of spare wheels from my spares mountain to avoid the need for multiple jacks or axle stands. - I have managed to get 100,000 miles out of one set of BFG Muds (original pattern, not KM2) on my Disco 2. KM2s wear slightly quicker and I generally find that replacing them at around 65k miles means they still have enough tread to be effective and to be saleable. - I find on both the Disco and Defender that front and rear tyres wear at the same rate, however the wear characteristics are dependent on rotation direction because the leading edge of a tread block will always wear quicker than the trailing edge for fairly obvious reasons, which has a significant effect on traction and braking. The main reason I swap them round is to even out this directional wear. - If you drive for prolonged periods at high speed on tarmac on mud tyres you will end up with alternate tread blocks wearing much more, for reasons I have never figured out. It is not possible to even out this wear pattern but it is possible to avoid it. |
