Since I removed the cat and mid box the exhaust really stinks, can't describe it really but notice smelly exhaust hanging around when I run it for a while before I drive on cold mornings. Don't quite understand it.

If you've got your internal fan setting above 1 it could be that your breath is being blown back into your face! Have you tried brushing your teeth before setting off! Try a mint imperial or two!!! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

We have 2 identical vehicles in the company with the same conversion, they both smell the same. The job was done by Mills 4x4 here in North Wales, and I think they are pretty switched on.

Original exhaust b I do have blanked egr. Smell / fumes seem to have increased recently together with a slight wobble on start up in the morning only?
Anything I should be looking out for? Will be changing fuel filter tonight. |

So it gets worse.
I thought i'd seen white smoke the other morning along with wobble but wasn't sure so didn't mention it. Tonight however got the wobble and white smoke on start up. An thoughts...sticky injector? |

Are you sure it's not just because the weather's got colder?
Mine does it, if I start from cold then after about 20 seconds I get a small white cloud round the exhaust for a bit and it's quite smelly. Soon sorts itself out. |

Pretty sure it's not that but thanks for the suggestion all the same.
might not be but think it's linked to the wobble. never noticed it smelly so much before and have had it through 5 previous winters.....and it didn't wobble in the previous winters either. |

Had a smell over the last 4 years, I too would get white smoke in the colder months on start up but would go during the warmer months. the smell I put it down to the fact the cat had been removed. However, start of this Autumn mine too started to get worse, really fumey, this later transpired to be a failing turbo. The turbo was replaced with a new unit and there was an improvement in the smell and fumes but now the engine has started breathing, Started to wonder if this has caused more issues than first diagnosed. Yet to sort a compression test kit.

of course. white smoke lack of air/fuel and black would be a sticky injector / over fuel?
F ! this is really p 'in me off. thank you all the same. I'm not sure it's the turbo - if it is this one hasn't lasted too long. my intermittent problem which I've always though was something to do with poor fuel / air delivery seems to be getting worse albeit still intermittent. |

Steve,
I'm glad you're around....helps keep me going at times this. Its kinda reassuring to know there's owners out there not having too many def probs. just come back in from freezing me nads off having a quick look under the bonnets for any little tells (none) and while out there gave the drivers door lock another good dose of WD40 in the hopeless attempt at getting the central locking to work again |
