Hi,
so if this weekend the weather allows me to stay outside for some time, i am planning to replace the crappy standard aerial with a rubbery one (apparently has a much better reception - no idea i trust the shop!) While removing the antenna should not be a big deal, running the cable back in the dashboard might be complicate. Do you guys have any experience/suggestion that you want to share with me? I suspect that i'll have to tear the dashboard apart... |

Please could you post some pictures if its not too much to ask. I am interested in replacing my standard ariel with a rubber one due to me traveling in remote locations and reception being very poor. Cheers '08 LR Defender 110

I know it doesnt help, but even in some remote scottish places, the radio full retracted has picked up stations perfectly.
The only reason i would replace it is stop it being snapped Mike |

Wonder if the heated front screen could be used as an aerial bit like in the disco?

Yes, and no...... from experience I have fount that the easiest way is to use the old cable to pull the new through. Cut the old one, push the new one into it a lottle bit, then using tape make it so that the cable is the same diamiter all the way along and cover about 12" of each cable so that it soesn't come lose whilst puling through. Yeah I know but I don't have any side windows as they force you to pay insane amounts of tax So would have to be the front. Pom |

sorry i read your message too late and is already job done. basically, just pull a string with the old cable, but when it comes to pulling the new cable in, i would advise running a metal wire after the string. gives a much better grip and control of the incoming cable. replacing the whole thing took a couple of hours as i lost ages in removing the old antenna holder under the wing ( before i realized that it was just locked by a metal clip) but it was great fun all in all |

CyberCharlie,
How much clearance is there under the wing? Looking to fit a stainless electric aerial but it needs 33cm clearance under the wing. Any idea before I go and rip out the wheel well lining too check? Cheers. |
