To Jay and James and anyone with a BAS remap. Did you purchase the BAS RRC?

Am I right in thinking that I can carry out the remap via the OBD port and avoid touching the ECU at all?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Think I found the answer....looks like you still need an unlocked ECU. 110 DCPU

I took mine up there but IKTank had the remote through OBD. Drop him a PM he's a top bloke who will talk you through it.

I'm a little twitchy about having my standard ECU messed with while the Defender is only a year old. Think I'll look into having a second ECU programmed.

I'm sure there's a good reason that it has to be unlocked but I had a stage 4.5 tune on a Nissan GTR completed via OBD without any requirement to touch the ECU. 110 DCPU

I must admit I couldn't quite understand the remote option, so went for the workshop install (along with Hi-Flow intercooler and silicone hoses). I have since bought a secondhand RRC unit for updates and diagnosis.

I believe all 2.2 need the ecu unlocked, so I think the remote option comes with a new unlocked ECU so you just swap and keep the original untouched. However best speak to Pete Bell for proper explanation. :thumbsup

I know when I enquired about an Alive tune at a local agent the ECU had to be sent to Alive for unlocking then sent back to remap and refit, so take a couple of days. James

Cheers James.

My understanding of the BAS RRC is that you are sent an unlocked ECU ready to fit and you then return your standard ECU to BAS by return. 110 DCPU

You could very well be right Mark. But at least with the rrc you can take the remap off for services. Seems very varied if LR dealers worry about remaps or not. Thumbs Up James

Yes...that's why I was originally considering it. But if they have to open the ECU to "adjust" it then I assume that's visible to the dealer if there's a problem? So I think maybe just keep my standard ECU and buy another for mapping.

I'll think on it. 110 DCPU

The ECU is opened to be unlocked but seeing Gary at Alive do it the dealer would be hard pressed to see any evidence. He is very good at it. and then with either the ATRIC or RRC you could load your standard map when going into the dealer and then load your map when it get's back.

Thumbs Up

I'll give them a call tomorrow. Another option would be to go Bowler and maintain the warranty but not sure it's worth the extra cash for a re-badged BAS map. Wonder if they'd sell me one without the extra ECU (Bowler send you a brand new ECU and you keep your original too). 110 DCPU

I'm 99% certain the Bowler remap does NOT maintain your warranty, it was discussed previously here I believe http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic38594.html?highlight=remap

BAS does the Bowler remap in case you didn't know, not saying it isn't worth the extra to see around Bowler and get the Bowler badge Wink James
