Unfortunately you can only bring the MOT forwards by 30 days and mine doesn't expire for 6 weeks.
Having done a bit more digging, it looks like an MOT in NI is ok, I'll give a test centre a call to confirm this week though. http://www.safermotoring.co.uk/can-i-have-...eland.html |

I lived in Ireland for a year and had an Audi MOT'd over the border in NI when it expired.
In the north all the test centres are government run, they also use a different MOT system than the mainland (or they did when I was there 4 years ago) so your MOT won't show up on online checks. I'm not sure if it shows on police ANPR etc but it may be worth carrying a copy with you when you come back to the mainland just in case, I never had any issues though. On a side note you can get a fresh MOT put on a car any time you want, the month rule only applies if you want to keep the existing expiry date for next year. Are you sure? I thought this was the limit if you want to retain the anniversary of the expiry date, and that you can actually get an MOT test at any time. In other words, if my MOT certificate expires on 30/09/17, the earliest I can get a test if I want the certificate to expire on 30/09/18 is 01/09/17, but I can get it tested on say 01/08/17 if I don't mind the certificate expiring on 31/07/18. Have the rules changed now it is all paperless? How else do these folk who sell vehicles witha new MOT certificate get on? |

Thank you for all the advice guys You are all correct, there's no restriction on when you can put it through the test, I'd misread the DVLA website. On that basis I'll get it through an MOT this week before setting off
