Do you know if there are any DTCs (fault codes) stored in the ECU?
There are many things which could cause a loss of power like this and checking for DTCs would be a logical first step to try to narrow it down. My intial suspects would be MAF/MAP sensors, EGR valve, VCV, or turbo actuator malfunction. Some of these will/may produce DTCs, others won't. Power lag and knock could well be related since the most likely cause of the power lag is some form of fuel/air management problem, which could very well cause slight knocking. |

Ok checked with icarsoft following DTCs
P1935 Brake switch / sensor this is probably why my brake light is flickering P1643 Can link engine control module / transmission control module / network malfunction U0001 High speed CAN communication bus P0404 Exhaust gas recirculation control - circuit range / performance (possible problem ?) U0100 Lost communication with engine control module / power train control module U 3000 control module P1602 Immobilizer / engine control module communication error I cant seem to clear these faults so can check which ones are current or not. to add that on the 130 I also have a UltraGauge plugged in to ODB2 port which give live data on various reading most of which I have no clue what they mean or should be. The one that initially jumps out from that list is the EGR fault.
Has the EGR valve become noisey recently, or stopped being noisey recently? A malfunctioning EGR valve could be the culprit but is not easy to diagnose except by replacement. |

^^ Not sure about EGR being at fault here. I once had a malfunctioning EGR and truck would only go into "safe" mode with "check engine light" on, meaning quite limited power, so I could not even get it to rev above 2000rpm. So it surely would not pull up to 3500 as seems the case here.

I don't here any noise from the egr in fact my 110 has this irritating chi chi chi sound when shutting down which I doubt hear on my 130. I can swap egr valves but will be cleaning sensors and checking boost first as I believe the egr is a bit of a b!tch to access on these 2.4s.

That "chi chi chi" sound on shut down is exactly what you should hear with a 2.4 TDCi. That is the sound of the EGR cleaning cycle. Something would be wrong if you would not hear that.

Can the egr be blanked off on the puma 2.4 have done it on my td5 and BMW e46 in the past. Will it result in engine light coming on?

Simply blanking it will cause problems (MIL illuminated), it needs to be disabled in the map. Many people then also blank it off.

Just For information, EGRs can be faulty even if they do make the shutdown noises as they are supposed to.
Mine started misbehaving and driving horribly, stuttering, lurching, throwing up errors, etc, but later turned out that it wasn't opening/closing when it was supposed to - I guess it was dying/seizing partially. However it always made the shutdown noises it was supposed to. The biggest clue for me was that the induction noise (from the side air intake) would vary in volume without any change in engine load, so something was obviously adjusting itself incorrectly. My workshop recommended not blanking it out, and personally I would prefer to keep any emissions-reducing equipment fitted. One EGR every 10 years isn't going to break my bank. |
