I would say a high quality BAS remap if anything would make your engine last the same or longer than normal OEM. A Decat is also beneficial too engine life, allowing better heat flow! I would really like too know their technical explaination, but I think they are really being disingenuous!

I De catted mine the day I got it, and never had any issues,
Much more free reving than in standard form. The cat is very restrictive, which in my book is a bad thing! De catting any engine should have nothing but positive results, except a slight increase in emissions from the tailpipe. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Turbo back pressure can be an issue in some cases (I have no idea on a defender)... However, the engineers who developed the engine will have known the expected back pressure on the turbo and designed it in accordance... Removing this 'back pressure' can cause premature turbo seal failure and in some cases, turbo overboost at low speed... Did Pete know that the cat was removed as he may have had to 're-jig' the map... Although your best to contact him directly as he is the expert on this.... I have spoken to him many times regards the removal of both my cat and dpf's... His reply has been to leave it as intended... So I have done..

I don't know the Puma engines very well but similar things can happen on TD5s which is sometimes down to a failed depression control unit in front of the turbo. You could fit a Provent 200 catch can/breather which may help the issue.
Having no CAT/DPF would not cause this issue, think about it, all you've done is remove a restriction inside the exhaust pipe. |
