cutting out
evening all and happy new year to you . my 300tdi tdi occasionally cuts out when driving,i then pull over(everything dead)and wait a few minutes,it then starts and i am on my way again.an auto electrician mate had a look and to get me out of trouble he ran wire from the +terminal on the battery to the stop solenoid,no more cutting out, bingo but i have to pull the wire off to stop the engine.
so obviously there is a break in the live supply to the stop solenoid somewhere.my question is has anyone else had this issue and is there a particular place where the wire breaks or is it a case of check it all the way along ?
thanks in advance good people Thumbs Up

Depends what year your 300tdi is but sounds suspiciously like what's called the 'spider unit', which is part of the immobiliser. It's a pretty well known fault that the solder joints on the board crack, which leads to intermittent running and/or starting. At one time LR even produced a plug-in bypass unit to solve it.

It's years ago since I last had to fiddle with one but a Google for 'Land Rover spider unit' will reveal all you need to know. Darren

2006 Defender 90 2.5 TD CSW Coniston Green
Hi, I have a 2006 Defender 90 and over the weekend the engine has just cut out whist driving, ie just as though you have turned the ignition off ! I had to pull over quickly and then the engine started as soon as I tried it !
In the garage at the moment but they cannot find anything !!!!
Any thoughts please ?

2006 probably late td5, not a TDI so best off asking Martin to split your post out into a thread there.

Could be a lot of things, rollover solenoid, airlock in the fuel, any more info?
