Range Rover Velar 2017
http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motor-sh...sche-macan

In the intro to the mag (editor) said JLR need a replacement Defender now more than ever. His reasoning being the brand needs a tough as old boots model that is seen to be doing all the hard work to give credibility to the increasingly up market SUV line- up. Sure they can all hold their own but nothing better than seeing a Defender (Land Rover) being used and abused to make that link in customers minds.

The editor suggests they will do it for this reason alone even though the market sector will be smaller. I would like to think he is right.

Just have a look at ther BBC1 intro link at the moment with a Mountain Rescue Defender appearing every night, most companies would give anything for product placement like that(or maybe they have...... Whistle

You know, originally I thought this new model was a bit of a waste of time but after reading those articles it makes sense for todays market.

Basically its an F-Pace with an RR badge and 4wd for not that much more than the top end F-Pace.

I can see the point - better than the evoque but not the sport...exactly what i needed.

On an aside - did you see the defenders at the D5 test days...it was like the grandad watching over the grandkids! Mike

I don't really care about the vehicle, it's just another variation on a theme, devoid of imagination or purpose.

HOWEVER, why do JLR insist on taking a dump on their heritage ? Maybe this is a precursor to the "Range Rover Series 1" or the "Range Rover Forward Control" or the new "Range Rover Defender". Taking historic and iconic names from their heritage and despoiling them by attaching them to completely unrelated vehicles. No doubt they'll be rolling out a pamphlet explaining how it's to reflect their heritage to show they've not lost touch with their roots. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

It's a good job they all have badges on, because without them I wouldn't be able to tell a Range Rover Velar from a Range Rover Sport from a Range Rover Evoque from a Disco Sport from a Disco 5...

If this is genuine, I'm still preferring the looks of the RRS, Does however IMO look a lot better than the new Disco.

I'd expected design influences from the Evoque/RRS, This to me looks more like DiscoSport/New Disco.

All that said If the disco sport came with a decent engine and less barge like handling we might well have
bought one of those. Very Happy 3 Landrovers
