Best suspension setup for stock 90. Fast road. Progressive?
Hi all, really sorry if this has been covered a million times.

I've got a bone stock setup on my 1986 90 csw. Standard springs and Britpart's cheapest dampers.

Have been looking at a set of more modern progressive springs (with the coils tightly wound at the top and further apart in the middle). Has anyone swapped to these?

Dampers I've guessed that Koni/Bilsten/OME are the best in terms of build quality and performance.

Really looking to transform ride comfort and compliance on the road but I know this is a tough ask.

Thanks chaps, just seen the Search function, oops.

Thumbs Up

I have triple rate progressive springs and bilstien shocks from IRB developments. Coupled with superpro bushes, upgraded anti roll bars and road biased tyres it's very capable on the road.

If you're ever near Woolacombe give me a shout and I'll take you out in it Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Sounds top shelf mate! Bow down

Did you buy from IRB's website? It seems to have been down for ages now.

I managed to pick up a complete set of SuperPro bushes (minus a £20 bush set) for £90 the other day on eBay. Stoked!

Were the anti-roll bars IRB's too?

Thanks for the offer of a spin mate! Thumbs Up

The best way to get hold of Ian is through Facebook. I've known him for ages
so I usually just go and see him and drop in Laughing

What bushes are missing from the kit you bought? I have a spare set of a frame bushes from superpro Thumbs Up

Front anti roll bar is standard with uprated mounts and the rear is from IRB. I did have a 32mm rear but it had a tendency to lift a rear wheel when cornering hard and made it quite tail happy. Good fun but not great for stability or handling Rolling with laughter

Now on a 25.4mm rear anti roll bar. Corners very flat and needs much more provocation to lift a rear wheel and is very stable Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Any antiroll bars are better than no ARBs. I have been running stock 300 tdi Discovery ones on my 110 for 5 years and everyone comments on how well it corners and holds the road. Plus they cost almost nothing Smile

I'm interested in a "road" set up too. Maybe something a little more comfortable.

Would anyone care to recommend a simple spring upgrade to get me started?

a slightly lower ride height would interest me too, maybe 1" ?

thanks! Bow down My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html

I must admit i never expected to see the term "fast road" on a Defender forum. Laughing

Seems a bit like seeing the terms "cross axled" or "mud terrain" on a Ferrari forum. Laughing

I do post in jest, each to their own.
