Is the full beam equally dodgy?
Does it work fine if you flash them? There are lots of possibilities but the most common is a failed switch. |

There's a relay in the main heap of relays that supplies power to the switch so it's possible that that's on the blink.
That's the relay that makes the lights go off when you turn the ignition off. |

What a joke.
My head light packed in last night. Plenty wiggling and on/of to no avail. After reading on here figured it might be the indicator switch. Anyhow took the steering column cover off to investigate and linked out the relevant wires to confirm headlights work and the did so clearly a faulty light switch (the short one). Took it out to replace it and thought how simple it looked and wondered what on earth could be wrong with it? Tested it with a multi meter and all ok??? Re-assembled and all ok!? Just last couple of screws to re-fit? I have no idea? |

OEM switches are Lucas in green boxes as of on eBay.
LR have a 50% mark up on lots of goods. Take a Waterpump for example £420 from LR, OEM £85. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

It's a very old school, and poor design. effectively open contacts, made of brass I think, with solder blobs on the end that are the contact point. It's quite a mushy slow actuation, so any arcing will degrade the contacts quite quickly. Moving it and cleaning it up will extend the life a little, but it will go again! |

So same thing with the lights. They've stopped working again?
Don't think it's related but fan heater speeds 1 & 2 don't at all and the illumination for fan speeds doesn't work intermittently? Any thoughts on where to look for the issue on the head lights? I suspect the resistors for fan motor speeds 1 & 2 are shot and a new resistor pack is required? Any thoughts and suggestions welcome. Many thanks. |

Looks like both bulbs have blown.....? Lovely evening for investigating and fixing. Especially when you drop one of the screws and have to spend twenty minutes splashing around in the puddles looking for it. Hot cuppa and back to it. |

Original bulbs back in and
They're like a couple of tea lights! I'd forgotten how much better the night breakers are. Are they still the best bulbs or anything better out there now? |

Cheers Ray.
Was thinking of something with one less 0 in it. Although I do think LED is going to have to be the long term solution. Hopefully they will be an investment long term. The lower current should mean the light switch last longer and the improved mpg due to lower load on the alternator all helps to convince me they'll pay for themselves over th next.........20 years maybe? LEDs are bling, but unnecessary. I find standard light units with decent bulbs and a relay loom works well for me.
Click image to enlarge Can't see why anyone could need more light than that. |
