Do the job properly - get the windscreen seal replaced by an autoglass specialist. You don't say whether you have alpine lights in the roof, if you do then odds are these are where the water in the headlining is coming from so get them replaced too.

My Land Rover is a 2012 DCPU so no alpine lights.
I don't think I need a new window seal, AFAIK they can leak from new and the official Land Rover procedure for addressing windscreen leaks is to run a seam of sealant around the edge of the rubber seal. If it was mine, I'd get hold of a rubber insert tool, pull the tensioning rubber out and then clean between the body and rubber and glass and rubber with a fairly strong cleaner, meths or carb cleaner (watch the paint) then using a quality black silicon sealer fill between body and rubber, rubber and glass.
Then quickly insert tensioning strip which will squeeze out all the excess sealer, clean this off with a plastic scraper and white spirit. Clean and polish and all should be dry. Roof seam, try Sikaflex as for underneath find the seam and treat accordingly, I made a good job of perfectly sealing the panel over the gearbox after the new clutch was fitted, only to find out it was a faulty batch and all had to come out again, the silicone had really stuck!!! |

Thanks chaps,
I'll go for sikaflex 221 for the roof and floor seams and some windscreen sealer for the windscreen. Now gone - 2012 2.2 110 DC XS |

Sorry, cold light of day the windscreen rubber is self tensioning, its the alpines that have a locking rubber, same principal applies, clean it out well first - don't use too much force as the rubber is self tensioning it will be tight to push something in there and then seal. Traditional gooey sealers dry out and crack eventually, where as a properly applied silicone should last for years.

Hopefully my leaks are now sorted.
I removed the front section of the headlining and confirmed water was getting into the channel above the doors through the roof seam. I've sealed the seam from the outside with silkaflex 221. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Thankfully no sign of other leaks in the roof space. Click image to enlarge The finished job is much neater than it appears in photo I then located the leak in the rear floor, there's a largish hole in the corner where the wheel arch meets the floor which Land Rover cover with a small patch. I removed the old patch and made a new one out of fleixble roof flashing, and glued it down with the silkaflex. Both sides were the same although on the OS leaked, so I patches both sides while the seats were folded forwards. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The final job was to fix the leak in the dash area, which I confirmed was leaking through the windscreen rubber. As suggested on here I removed the font window, cleaned and dried the rubber and the frame, refitted the screen and sealed up the out edge with some black Silicone. Removing and replacing the front screen was surprisingly easy, but in all the excitement I forgot to take photos. Cheers - Justin Now gone - 2012 2.2 110 DC XS |
