I must admit my wheelboxes seized up with the white aluminium corrosion. so when i replaced them i put plenty of grease around them! Cheers Will 2005 90 XS 1954 86'' Series 1 tilt 1968 88” 2A 200tdi 2002 110 Hardtop |

Ah, I've not had that happen, but that would cause total, unfixable seizure!

Mine had gone slow due to friction from rust inside the spindle. The wiper struggled to start turning them (I used to help them by hand until they had done a cycle) and then they'd be OK for the rest of the day. Leave them off for a couple of days and they'd be stuck again.
When I replaced them I couldn't even turn the one side by hand off the vehicle, so fair play to the wiper motor for doing as well as it did. Ended up replacing the lot, wiper motor with park switch, cable and the two wiper boxes. No more clackety clak |

Normally they seize solid on vehicles that aren't used frequently.
But use them too much and they wear out. |

Typical Land Rover, use it and it breaks, don't use it and it breaks

As the folks have said above, probably the wheelboxes.
Eventually the wiper rack will miss the teeth and stick- I had to sort this last year on my 05' TD5. As a temporary fix you can put the rack out, cover it in loads of grease, rotate the wheelboxes through 180 degrees using the spindles on the outside and then reassemble. When you do change the wiper wheels and the rack be prepared for a couple of hours of hand punishing misery- if you can find an assistant with small hands and a fantastic memory to remember where all the ever-so-slightly different screws go I'd thoroughly recommend it. Even after doing this mine slap about a bit- and this is due to the wear in the worm drive and cambox on the wiper motor- I have decided that using Rain X regularly is a cheap solution to this for now...... I've got the same, discussed recently in another thread.
Parts are in the mail (got the rack too, but not switch will try to refurbish that myself if need be), if I have time I'll photograph the fix process.. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

You should be able to get 2 used out of each rack and each wheelbox by turning them 180 degrees. Mine lasted 95,000 miles. You can only very slightly hear them of the engines off but running you can't hear a thing. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.
