Hi Fellow Puma Owners,
My 2009 Defender (puma 2.4 w/ bell auto service tune) will not accelerate past 3,000 RPMs when in gears 5 and 6 - limiting my maximum speed to less than about 120 kph. It is very difficult if not impossible to push past 3,000 RMPs in these two gears, where as in all other gears (1, 2, 3 and 4) I can push past 3,000. I'm thinking this is potentially a turbo hose issue or a map/maf sensor issue (as I read in previous posts). What do you think? Do you have other ideas or a way to troubleshoot the problem? Please know that I replaced the turbo hoses 3 or 4 years ago with ones made of silicon. Thanks, Kirk |

Actually...Scratch that, I have the same problem in gear 4, too. I type this on my mobile while I drive down the road!

Check for any boost leaks and test your MAF. Have you got access to diagnostics?

A Puma in 6th does 120kph already at 2400/2500 RPM. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

True, you got me. But, I still have a noticeable problem. Something is wrong. I've got no power past 3k RPM.
No codes on my code reader do-hickie. |

A tiny hole in the turbo hose, maybe?
Any new sounds, that is, above the usual cacophony? A sort of hissing noise? 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

HI All,
thanks for your support. Please forgive me...I am not a mechanic or engine technician. So, my descriptions are going to be elementary and nontechnical, but I will try.... After replacing the turbo hoses and cleaning the MAP and MAF sensors, same problem. The engine seems to run a little smoother and quieter, but same problem - it loses its mojo after +/-3,000 rpms - particularly in gears 4, 5 and 6. Its interesting to note that the engine runs really well, but does not want to go past that magic number in higher gears. I payed close attention to my scan gauge and noticed a drop in the MAP values when I the engine does this. These values go from 36+ under hard acceleration to 29 at the point of loosing its umph (note: MAP values at 14 when engine is idling). Beyond the scan gauges kit, I have a BAS bluetooth device left over from when I remapped it. I can connect that device again and study other parameters displayed on my smartphone, but can you give me any advice on what to look for? I think my next move is to replace the MAP and MAF sensors. One clue I left out before - and its kind of a big one - I just replaced the turbo charger with an aftermarket piece (Garett). It had been making a lot of noise and the mechanic told me it was bad/broken. Now it makes no noise - sounds good. Before I replaced the turbo - I had the same issue with the loss of power. Thanks, Kirk |

the bas device should allow you to read faults. Do that and see what it comes up with.

I gotta be honest I rarely rev my pum a past 3k. Have you had the speed limiter removed as I think you'll hit that before 3000 rpm. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

3000 rpm on VI speed/gear is more or less 140 km/h and it is the speed limiter. Are you sure that the speed limiter was removed? Try to call Pete at BAS! Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
