Soft A bar modification

Hi, does anyone know if a standard soft A Bar can be modified to fit a winch bumper. From what I can see, the lower inner part of the A Bar is shaped to fit the winch tray. I read somewhere a while ago that a section of the soft foam stuff can be cut away so that it fits. I'm looking for a secondhand one but there don't seem to be any winch versions coming up and I'm not paying £500+ for a new one.
