However there is a down side,
While its bought its at the garage while they do some bits...so while I don't have it.. She's having me painting rooms..... walls, skirting, etc etc I think she is making the most of me before this arrives at home and I'm out tinkering.... ![]() |

I can't believe the prices series motors are going for. When I sold mine I struggled to get £1500 for it. Over the years I owned it I had replaced the chassis, replaced the bulkhead posts and bottom brackets, fitted a 2.5 diesel, FWH, electric fan, new 750 radials on nice wide military rims which looked the dogs, parabolic springs with gas shocks, military galvanised front bumper with the over-riders on top which again looked the part, fitted a re-con gearbox including overdrive, re-con rear axle, tidied up a load of the wiring and made all that good along with a million other bits and pieces that keep it on the road like a new steering relay and all other steering bits too like swivels etc. new radiator, clutch etc etc etc. It ran sweet as a nut, pulled like a train and would give over 30mpg on a run. Eventually a girl bought it to pull a horse box. It still sits in her driveway and is literally now a shed with a load of junk packed inside it. I'm tempted to make her a ridiculous offer for it, but do I want to go down the road of spending all my spare time underneath a 37 year old motor again? When I used to work shifts I had plenty time for that - plus I was happily single at the time - but with a wife and a dog (sadly we lost our older dog last week due to a tumour in his spleen

Sorry to hear about your dog
![]() ^ Same with a lots of cars I had years ago, look at the classic mini We had a few of them, they now go for serious money, I had a 205Gti bought for £1100 it would not be worth 5 times that, That's just life..l. ![]() The fact some are now tax except it's not really costing much to have it, the way I look at it is, the value is going up more than my money is doing in the bank plus I have the fun and use of it. I have two young Children and still doing a house up but still find tinker time ![]() |

Cheers Stacey, he was a grand old dog. Yes, get the wee fella a set of overalls, he will love working on it with his old man. Keeping the old one up to scratch will be great fun - especially if you don't need it as your daily driver and can spend your time on it. Plenty of nice mods and upgrades can be done to the old motors which keep them looking standard but improve it at the same time. Plus, what better way for the wee lad to get into mechanics than proper old school like a series motor.
