I use Craddocks & Paddocks for non mechanical parts (..eg panels, mats, hoses.etc)
and see who is cheapest. Often Ebay throws up a cheaper option. Spares availabilty is huge. Just take care as with all parts sometimes cheapest maybe trash Put the time into research and save plenty of ££££s Clemmo Make today a little better than yesterday but not so good as tomorrow.... As above for most parts, but you only get what you pay for.
Regarding insurance try heritage, Adrian flux, although your quote sounds reasonable to me. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Paddocks is my default for all the usual stuff because you can sometimes choose the quality of the parts (i.e. Lucas/Lockheed wheels cylinders, Corteco seals, GKN UJs & Timken bearings). The quality of unbranded stuff they send is acceptable (often Bearmach), they are quick to correct any mistakes and they do free delivery over £60. Britpart have redeemed themselves lately a little on the Series 2 Club forum with some better quality brake drums, shoes and swivel balls than others. I would never buy anything made of rubber from them though!
Craddocks sent me something faulty or missing all three times I tried them and were less than helpful in correcting it. Watch out for people sending you inferior parts when you pay for genuine or OEM (L.R.Series are you watching?) YRM are a good choice for repair sections for the bulkhead. I suggested Classic Bulkheads for the ribbed (swaged) footwells, but Les Crombie's are nicer (IMO). I called round the usual suspects for insurance this year and ended up with Peter Best. Heritage were a close second IIRC. Getting agreed value and breakdown cover included for 'free' is worthwhile. Some people charge as much for these two add-ons as the actual policy. |

Pretty much what miles R said.
I pay a similar amount for insurance on my IIA lightweight. The agreed value is the key bit and whether you think they would honour it. I use Footman James but the other names suggested are good as well. For the footwells get the ones that duplicate the ribbed originals and be prepared for a full on time of it. Are you planning to strip the bulkhead down? as most stuff has to come off it to repair the bulkhead completely. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

Be wary of Peter Best, we had both our series insured with them but when they came up for renewal they said they no longer cover green lane use.
That's no use to me so both vehicles are now with Carol Nash. Your quote sounds ok but check you are getting the cover you require, I'd rather pay a bit more to ensure I'm covered. |

I've found Dunsfold to be great for anything that is not generic Series in the past. They will find the exact part for your year/ model, sometimes genuine parts, and will tell you off if you consider fitting anything from the wrong model because its cheaper! Worth a visit just to have a nose around what vehicles are there at the time.

AIUI The underwriter who Peter Best used to use confused byways with private land. This is now resolved and the new underwriter (Hiscox) are common to a few of the classic insurers.
I would use a classic policy from a reputable broker. When I first insured mine I added it to my multicar policy for about £50. The insurer point blank refused to accept the valuation provided, even though it was from Julian Shoolheifer. They had no idea what they were insuring. Last edited by milesr3 on 24th Jan 2017 9:22am.
