I've had one of these for years and has been brilliant, already used it about 6 times this year!! The head pushes out and swaps sides. |

A breaker bar could snap a glow plug, drilling it out is then a bit of a pain in the bottom, the glow plug manufacturers publish the shear strength of the plugs, so using the correct setting on a torque wrench anti-clockwise you don't have to exceed the shear strength and snap the plug (in theory ) |

So when you've taken it up to it's shear limit and it still hasn't cracked off what choice have you got then?

Oil in the plug wells for a few days, a hot engine and an extractor kit at the ready

You need this type for on/off torques

I use a "Snap on torque o meter" for jobs like you describe, mines getting on abit and could probably do with recalibrating but I'd rather use this than a breaker bar

I believe these are made by Norbar (no PROOF one way or the other but I have seen many references online.) Certainly seems good quality and good value Last edited by apt100 on 18th Jan 2017 11:48pm. Edited 1 time in total |

In work we use this style where the 1/2" drive pushes through allowing both directions. We use it for bolts that have counter clockwise thread. Greg |

All the torque wrenches I've ever used have a reversible ratchet, same as all the ratchets I've seen!
Teng do a nice 1/2" one, about £50 from amazon. Agreed with the point about what happens when you reach the shear point. Sometimes no amount of oil and warmth will help! |
