See below a brief article from the local news paper the Hereford Times. Lyonshall farmer to battle some of the coldest conditions on earth in unique fundraising adventure BATTLING against some of the coldest conditions on earth, a Herefordshire farmer is due to embark on an adventure like no other. Andrew Lloyd, from Lyonshall, is taking on a 5,000-mile trek though some of the world’s most challenging conditions while raising money to help rebuild Nepal. Andrew will be swapping the warm European climate for minus 55 degrees temperatures in the Siberian desert, where his challenge will start. The book ‘The Long Walk’ tells the story of six prisoners of war who escaped from a Siberian Gulag camp and began a 5,000-mile trek south. They travelled through the Gobi Desert, Tibet, and the Himalayas to finally reach British India in the winter of 1942. Despite concerns over the truth of the story, Andrew is due to mirror this journey while competing against French explorer Cyril Delafosse- Guiramand who completed the trip in 14 months. Andrew wants to take the record for completing the journey while raising money for the Ghurka Welfare Trust for the work they do rebuilding villages and schools hit by earthquakes in Nepal. “The challenge is there to be done and I don’t need any other reason,” said Andrew. “Records are there to be broken and you wouldn’t do anything if you didn’t take risks.” To donate to his cause visit his Just Giving page at: www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Lloyd11 130's have feeling's as well you know |
