Changed the rear diff oil yesterday.

Also fitted one of these magnetic sump plugs, works well, but didn't screw it all the way in, its an NPT fitting and the thread is deeper on the new plug and I'm paranoid that i'd crack the diff housing....yes i could have torqued it up, but i didn't Smile

Changed it to COMMA EP 80W-90, GL-5, its the equivalent of the Texaco stuff in the manual, i used the last of what i had. Oil that was drained was lovely, cleanish, no water present and more importantly no metal fragments.

I would do the front diff, but in my wisdom I bought the wrong oil GL-4, will see if they will swap it over for the right stuff next Saturday.

I also spent some time on here and ebay and bought a glovebox conversion kit, I'm gobsmacked it hadn't been done on this truck, its such a handy easy mod!!!!

Last thing i need to decide on is whether to buy clear WIPAC LED's or coloured LEDS, the factory look on my truck would mean a mix of coloured and clear lens, i wonder if the bay's would split a set Whistle

Cheers
Andy

So today I have been mostly working on my truck Smile

Checked all the fluids, nice to see nothing dropped since I last checked.

Fixed the hands free phone, replaced fuse, think it popped when i had moved the radio last Sunday, certainly no wiring shorts that are obvious anyway.

Fitted a glovebox conversion kit from Mobile Storage Systems. Nice kit, went together very nicely, no dramas, and it did include black flanged nuts, which I thought it hadn't when it was delivered.

The glovebox conversion is begging for a USB charger or Torch Charger to be mounted in there I reckon, so thats next weekends job Wink

I also fitted my new private number plates - very cool, never had private plates before!!!

Also test fitted my new genuine wing chequer plates, will look at getting the old mince checker plate off and replace it with my new ones.

New clear indicator lights ordered but not arrived yet, also have new LED reg plate light but before I replace it I will replace the plinth, as the old one is badly scratched up, yes I know it doesn't really need it, but I have to unbolt the old one and by the time I'd faffed about fitting the new one, I'm unlikely to break back into the area again (LED is fit and forget) so be as well doing it right first time Smile

Cheers
Andy

Ok, so new LED lights fitted to the truck, including new number plate light (photos to follow).

For the number plate light, I snipped the harness at the old light plinth and offered up the new plinth and the light, threaded the wires through the plinth, then soldered and heat shrink sleeved the connections. This avoided having to disturb the existing connector on the loom, and the old cable is really long (circa 12" or more).

I also went for the XS type in the end, RDX ones from Bolt on bits, complete with new flasher relay.

I also bought clear brake lights and clear rear indicators as I wasn't too sure which ones to go with....keep an eye out on the for sale section soon....

Just need new fog light and reversing light to complete the back end. I think I will also look at replacing the top level rear door brake light, but I'll have a hunt about for an LED bulb I think.

Might get a chance to mount the cubby box locking under box tomorrow night - maybe.

Cheers
Andy

no point in fitting new flanges to worn shafts....

also check the a frame ball joint as puma ones seem to wear quickly and even a small amount of wear contributes to that dreaded driveline cunk when taking drive up

cheap flanges are no better than worn ones we found as the tolerances are to high even with matching shafts (blue packaging ones)

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

Well fitted the new half shafts and drive flanges tonight.

Fitted Genuine flanges and britpart half shafts, new bolts, gaskets, circles and rubber caps.

Took it for a test drive, and yes, has made a difference alright, clunk has all but disappeared.

Old flanges and half shafts were worn, not about to fail, but definitely contributing to the clunk.

One interesting fact is that the gearbox feels less notchy, only notchy going 4 into 5, more miles needed before I'll commit to this though.

Cheers
Andy

Cool, look what the posties delivered today....

4x LED spot lights.

I also found a sealed up hole in the roof, it looks like one of the previous owners had wiring going to a rack I would say......Also aligns with some research on the previous owner of this car and also some other evidence in the car of extra wiring (no poorly done, well the rear spot light wiring is gash but think that was another owner.).

So tonights job will be to mount the lights and maybe look at mounting a junction box behind the racks number plate plinth. Might 3d print myself a suitable junction box Smile

Cheers
Andy

See photo below:-

How much work is it to remove the front roof lining, do I need to remove all three lining sections, or can i get away with removing the front winning only.

if so does anybody know how to do it??

Cheers
Andy
