Installing headlight relays - for the novice!
Having just had to replace a headlight switch in my TD5 as it burnt out I'm planning on adding some relays to prevent a recurrence.

Has anyone got any simple guides on how to do it?
I've had a search about and there are some guides, however I'm struggling with good points to connect into the existing loom.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

When I get round to sorting mine, I plan to take a permanent feed from the alternator, fuse it there to 30A.

From there into the relay.
Trigger the relay using the existing wires feeding the headlight plugs.
Earths all back to a convenient bolt on the engine block.
Splice the output of the relays into the original headlight plug wiring with either heatshrink butt crimps or solder and heatshrink.

If none of that makes any sense I'll get a diagram sorted!

Thanks Miker.

I'll have a look for a suitable point on the alternator to tap into

The output terminal is from memory an m8 stud. Has two wires coming off it, one from the battery, one to the starter!

I've just received a kit from LandReiziger to do this, it's plug and play. I used to make looms etc for my older cars, but buying quality off the shelf items now is so much easier and in most cases tidier. You should have a look for them.

Just make sure you disconnect the battery before going anywhere near that stud on the alternator. I speak from experience Thumbs Up 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
