thought that might catch your attention.
I really don't want this to turn into a slagging match and for that reason I'm really not interested in anyone naming names. there's many posts on here mentioning just how fantastic and pleased people are with their remaps so what I'm wondering is - has anyone had a remap and been disappointed. not so much that it hasn't worked (if thats possible) but more that the results aren't what they had expected. if not in what way. ? |

may be worth doing a search under disappointed.
but i can assure you if you follow the advice on here you won't be. if you do want to be diappointed with new software then i could write you some files . but god knows what might happen. 110 xs s/wagon s3 swb soft top |

On my 2006 Td5 110 XS SW (long gone) - I 1st did an Autologic remap; could not really tell a massive difference in the 3 months it was on there - slight improvement. However 1 day I towed the Ibex to a challenge event and back - spirted driving. 2 days later the turbo was knackered (only 18mths old at the time). I am in no way suggesting that it was the Autologic map that definately did this; it just made me go a different route once the new turbo was fitted.
I then went to a far more widely know specialist and it had:- 1. De-cat. 2. EGR blank. 3. Allisport Intercooler 4. Stage 2 remap. 5. Paper air filter (don't start) It went like stink, very pleased loved driving it; 2 things that were not so good:- 1. Would it go through an MOT on smoke test - NO. 2. When the engine was cold, at high altitude (i.e. ski resort in the Alps in winter - engine cold after overnight), it would not pull away up hill without 2000-2500 RPM & clutch slip, or wait until the engine was warm. It was fine in the same conditions in the summer - obviously ambient temp much higher). Regards Mark. |

thanks Mark,
I wonder if the 'problem' in the cold was almost entirely down to the intercooler? ignoreing this issue the idea of a bigger intercooler appeals to me. |

I don't think anybody will be disappointed - in the long run.
I think after a remap, the driver gets in and expects to to be a different vehicle if you know what I mean?!! It does make a difference initially and will be felt after or during the first drive, but it'll take time to get used to how it drives, better drivability, where the power/torque is, better economy etc, so my advice would be to drive it as you usually would do, not to just put your foot to the floor and expect it to push you back in your seat. By that time your used to it being better, you're already kind of used to it and need to drive the old un-mapped vehicle again to appreciate what it used to be like. (now I'm going to stop because I'm making no sense at all) |

you will always get someone that thinks the gains are never enuff and that its still not quick enough bla bla
but remeber you are effectivly tuning a brick on wheels therefore most people search for better drivability not just power steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

You could ask
"have land rover with their millions really got the standard map that wrong?" |

I always wonder that myself but I often think the likes of LR are lead to meet all sorts of legislation, play it safe and various issues that probably are that relevant and other we perhaps couldn't have dream't of.
there's seems to be many advocates of the re-map and certainly the graphs / figures seems to prove the benefits. I guess its no different to what bmw do with their engines and offer different levels of performance from the same unit? (and vw). there's seems to be very little suggestions coming in related to disappointment - granted very small concensus but interesting all the same. (I still think somewhere there must be a pit fall - quite possibly something that is relevant to everyone use?? |

You could also ask whether a fair proportion of those millions are spent on Defender development. Care to hazard a guess on the actual proportion compared to, say, the Evoke or the new Range Rover? Darren

good point Darren .. I guess we'll never know.
As for re-maps in general, I'm bordering on having a remap but i can't seem to understand the more economy claims. Does this make sense: More power = more fuel |

Of course, you also need to factor in the placebo effect that any tune/service gives you.......... Craig Rogers
