'Terrorist's shopping list' of military equipment is stolen
A “terrorist's shopping list” of gun sights, a sniper rifle and camouflage gear have been stolen from military bases, we can reveal.

Night-vision goggles, bullet-proof vests and a sword were among crooks’ haul as they targeted armed forces’ stations across the UK.

Labour MP Luciana Berger said: “This latest list of thefts from the Ministry of Defence reveals an absolute scandal.“Whilst our armed services face ferocious cuts, valuable equipment is walking out of the door from some of the most secure locations in the UK.”

The revelations come after the Mirror was shown a Ministry of Defence list detailing thefts over the last two years. Swag included a “ball-bearing replica sniper rifle”, two “advanced combat optical gun-sights”, five sets of body armour and “disruptive pattern material webbing”.

Thieves pilfered three “aircraft containers”, two Land Rovers, 10 Land Rover spare wheels and a minibus.

A total of 26 pairs of night vision goggles, 28 sets of “head mounted night vision systems” and a parachute also went missing. Less sensitive items stolen from bases include a leather armchair, an Xbox games console, a summer house and a jigsaw.. Fuel, cash and radios were also nicked, along with three chainsaws and one circular saw.

Musically-minded crooks swiped a “regimental side drum” and a clarinet, while fitness equipment including four treadmills, three rowing machines and two exercise bikes was taken. A fridge, two sets of diving equipment and a kayak were also recorded as stolen between November 2014 and October this year, as were two bearskin hats for Guardsmen protecting the Queen. The haul, which included six iPads, is worth more than an estimated million pounds.

Defence Minister Mark Lancaster outlined the list of pilfered property in a letter to Ms Berger following Commons questions. She added: “Some of the items are hard to conceal - a minibus, two Land Rovers, a rowing machine, four generators and a fridge. “Many of the items would present a serious threat to UK citizens if they fell into the wrong hands - a ball-bearing sniper rifle, weapon sights, 26 pairs of night vision goggles, a chainsaw, camouflage clothing, and a sword. “It reads like a terrorist’s shopping list. “It adds up to millions of pounds-worth of military equipment, from iPads to an entire summer house, paid for by the taxpayer, which we are unlikely to ever see again.”

You have to laugh! A (replica) ball-bearing sniper rifle and a sword! If the terrorists get hold of these, then we may as well surrender now!

Basically nothing that cannot be bought over the counter, typical gutter press and attention seekers. 80" 1948

If a terrorist drops a fridge on your foot or whacks you around the back of your head with a kayak, then it could be very serious... Thumbs Up

Is this a list of stolen items or more likely a list of items that cannot be accounted for i.e. issued but someone has lost the paperwork.? Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

How dare you suggest someone has lost a 1033 or somehow misaccounted for something!

With the armed forces now able to fit in the, missing, minibus, you just have to ask around at dinner if you have lost something.

I think the terrorists have a master plan. 80" 1948

Some will be stolen, other bits will of been lost. The list isn't as bad as the papers are making out, if you think most of that kit can easily be purchased online or in a surplus store, dpm webbing etc is being phased out, body armour has been on eBay for years and a leather chair is....... well a leather chair I can buy online too.

The only items you can't buy are the nvgs and hmnvs, however go into the relms of the hunting world and these items albeit in a civvy form again become easily purchased from multiple online sources.

The RMP do have a very close eye on the likes of eBay and will quickly be knocking at your door if they think you have something you shouldn't, even I have reported items I know shouldn't be for sale only to see the item quickly removed from the listing. Some things can be traded easily others not so, if you have an interest in military kit just ensure the seller has a genuine item and if in doubt stick to a proper company, there are a few that specialise in government disposal and often list military items. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Couldn't agree more. Mis counting will be a big problem with this kit.
I was somewhere hot and sandy a few years ago and we were training the blokes with black tape over their eyes, and it turned out that they had loaned some 50cal weapons to the blokes with black tape over their eyes who swim very well. Turned out they had the 50cal but had no paperwork to say who they belonged to. Turned out each unit was fudging paperwork to cover the "loss" or "gain" as they couldn't prove where the weapons were.
So for normal run of the mill units the odd miscount is a normal occurance.

I remember conducting the Ord Sgts checks of the ammo bunker a few years ago. Have yo tried counting explosives when they come in boxes of 80, not the easiest number to mulitply in your head when counting huge stacks of them. Having to recount detonators to be sure the right number of each type were present. Trouble was the number present didn't tally with the paperwork. So we went to the office, while I put the kettle on, the storeman ?found" some paerwork covering the discrepancy. Strangely enough the ink was still wet Rolling with laughter . But I had counted and now I had paperwork to prove what I had found. Job done, tick on checksheet, move on to drinking tea 110 D250 SE HT
