One of the 385 made (and probably only 190 left), GB292 is offered in standard and original form apart from the seats - but the originals can be offered in the sale...
The Defender 50th Anniversary (in case you don't already know) has the 4 litre, V8 engine, automatic gearbox, and air conditioning - in Atlantis blue. It came as standard with a Safety Devices full roll cage, side-steps, NAS rear step, and silver chequer-plate. What sets GB292 apart from all the others is its exceptionally-low mileage. It has only done 24,000 miles. Apart from one other that has been mothballed, it is the lowest mileage 50th Anniversary known. I have all the service history going back to when it was new (see below), and MoT certificates back to 2006. It has the Powerflow exhaust system – and sounds fantastic. The front seats are new – but the original ones come with the car. The rear seats have been replaced for forward-facing ones with their own integral seatbelts - but I have a set of original rear seats on standby from a seller if a buyer wants them. There are a few paintwork imperfections (a little aluminium bubbling), but it looks great. The underside hasn’t been coated, so you can see the chassis, and that it’s in good condition. The chequer-plating is brand new (literally fitted yesterday), as it had black plating. Service history: 1st service - Apr '00 - 4,344 miles 2nd service - Sep '00 - 5,488 miles 3rd service - Jan '02 - 6,502 miles 4th service - Jun '06 - 15,379 miles 5th service - Mar '12 - 18,618 miles 6th service - Oct '12 - 19,603 miles 7th service - Dec '13 - 22,230 miles 8th service - Feb '14 - 23,022 miles 9th service - Jan '16 - 24,123 miles The car has never been resprayed, nor is there any chassis coating applied (to hide anything!). There is no serious bubbling, even at the bottom of the doors, and I can take photos if you wish. The rear cross member is original, and is fine. There are no dents (apart from a tiny one) or scratches. £28,000 Please email me on info@tebe.co.uk Now left. Last edited by What puddle? on 14th Nov 2016 7:36pm. Edited 5 times in total |

For such a low mileage vehicle, I reckon it would be more appealing if you were to bring it back to to original condition by installing the original front & rear seats....I would also put original flooring/mats etc in the rear. I LOVE original low mileage vehicles, so I just think that these are things that people of like mind would be looking for.

Well, it's a tough call, actually. The original front seats come with the sale (and obviously take just 20 minutes to put back in), but I've had comments from other 50th owners that they like the new black seats, so I thought it best to just let the new owner make up their mind - I can do it for them if they wish. I have a rear set on standby if the new owner wants them too. I personally don't like the idea of side-facing seats, you certainly shouldn't put anyone you love in them! In an accident, they are (apparently) pretty horrific. And I've heard some insurers won't insure a Defender with rear side seats. Up until a few days ago, my 50th had black chequer-plating. Now, you would think that buyers wouldn't like that, but I had two comments from other 50th owners that they prefer it. I know there are many 50th owners who believe they should be as close as they were to factory-built as possible, and I understand that, but peoples' tastes really vary. There are black 50ths, silver 50ths, 50ths with 4.6 litre engines, and even a soft top. If there is a 50th that is exactly as it was when it came out of Solihull, then I've yet to see it. Very many had bull bars fitted. Indeed, perhaps the majority of 50ths have bull bars...but they weren't standard on the 50th, they were just a fashion that caught on quickly at the time.
I know what you're saying about originals though. I have often thought about getting a Morris Minor. But it would have to be exactly as it was when I was a kid in the early 1960s. Now left. |
