12V Wireless Remote Switch Controller question
Hi guys n gals,

I currently have my rear work light wired to a switch on my dash. With the below device, could I still utilise the switch for a manual on/off and use the remote as and when needed? Or once this little chappy is inline, would I only be able to switch on and off with the remote?

I guess i'm asking if it works passively in line with switch?

What you want to do can be done, but not in the way you've described. If you put the remote in line with the manual switch then both would need to be 'on' to make the light work. Not impossible, but does mean you'd have to think about it every time to ensure both switches are in the right configuration.

An alternative though, would be to have your dash switch as an on/on, with one output being direct to the light and the other via the remote. That should give you the best of both worlds.

You could even use a three position switch to give a manual 'off' setting, although that might not suit if you're trying to match OE switches.

I plan to do something similar with mine, although I'll be adding a little relay circuit to switch on automatically when reverse is selected at night. Darren

I have exactly the same remote but then in my kitchen Whistle

Like LadRover Anorak said you want to have this wired parallel. to be able to switch it on from outside the car. But it will be on full brightness if you use the car switch. And you can only regulate the brightness and the flashing programms with your remote.

Remember to add a switch to disable this feature for the MOT, and (ostensibly) when the vehicle is on the public highway, since it is illegal to use a rear worklight on a public highway without an amber beacon, and it is illegal to use a rear worklight as a reversing light.

I do it all the time though, and have never had an issue, but mine is independent of the reverse lights.

Putting that in parallel with your existing switch would allow either of them to turn it on, putting them in series would allow either of them to turn it off. A different setup with two changeover switches would allow either of them to turn it on or off (like when you have a switch and the top and bottom of a flight of stairs).

Whilst that's true, it's a bit more complicated to achieve as the remote won't work as an on/on in the way that'd be required.

Ha, obvious now I think about it.

I was trying to avoid running another cable back up into the dash and/or changing the switch. However, I just had another thought. I have an auxiliary fusebox in the back fed directly from battery. Can I keep the existing cabling in place for the dash switch, but run another live from the additional fuse box with this 'dimmer' in series? So as long as I don't switch it on with the remote AND dash switch, I should be ok (maybe putting a fuse inline also just incase)?

if you are lucky enough to have a 2.4 or a td5, behind the speaker there is a purple and a black wire, connect purple to red, black to black, that's the power source sorted, then connect the switched side to the light .. job done
