Leisure battery install otions

Evening all.

I'm after some advice/ideas with installing a removable leisure battery to my Defender.

Last year myself and my brother went to the F1 at silverstone in the Defender and camped (silverstone woodlands), it was a great week away but one thing we missed was a fridge and some ability to charge our phones without having to pay £25 for a recharge locker. Although electric hook up is available it's a bit pricey and sells out quickly.

So, my first thought was to install a twin battery setup and split charger system, but in reality it would only be used a couple of times a year so seems a waste of money and carrying the extra weight probably isn't ideal.

So I was thinking of building a battery box to house a leisure battery, mount an inverter or some sockets and be able to install/remove the battery/box as and when I need it in to the rear of the Defender.

I've been reading up on leisure batteries and it would seem running a small fridge (just keep food chilled and some milk etc) and charging our phones should be fine on a fully charged deep cycle battery, I can the connect it to a trickle charger once home to keep it topped up.

Any thoughts on this?

We currently have a trip to the world endurance championship booked for the 14th April so I'm looking at getting this up and running pretty soon.

For your intended use, why not just buy a decent jump start pack? They have 12v outlets on them, come 'pre-packaged' and will probably by useful at other times. Darren

I too would be interested in a set up like this as I have a fridge for occasional use, that I would like to be able to swap between by Defender and Series One. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

we often do exactly that when we goto events in a normal car or with friends.

decent leisure battery good fridge full of food n beer.we use a small solar panel which worked well at the big outdoors and kept a red top optima alive enough to run a waeco for 4 days with plenty of openings.

nothing wrong with a boost pack but the cost of a decent one is higher than a decent amp battery
