It is very nice and way out of my reach, but even if I had the money I think I'd prefer to build it myself, than buy a limited edition that I feel would need to stay original. James

Haha, no way!
James French had the same 90 Autobiography but with 13k miles for sale last week for £54k, but no long on website so assume sold!! I'm not sure they are appreciating at all, and won't for a very long time now. Bubble has burst on these I think! Still at least 3 brand new AB for sale in this country at similar prices. They are offered for almost a year now from spec resellers, but the AB is truly unloved in this country. We got an initial country allocation of 50 AB, very high for a small country like Switzerland and that was based on the belief that there is a ready luxury car market waiting here. But our importer when seeing that AB sales did not happen at all, was smart enough to renegociate with Solihull and bring the AB allocation well down and replace by the better selling Heritage. Matter of fact, I see various Heritage trucks every week here in town, never ever have seen an AB on the road in this country. I know that in the entire Canton de Genève only one single AB was sold, to a Mid East buyer....
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I had a good look at an identical (the same?) one in my stealers showroom 18 months ago.
My overwhelming memory was... the smell of very nice leather! Almost everything is covered in it, and it's amazingly soft high quality leather at that! Did not like the all back version however... I think the '2 tone' versions looked nicer. That price is only just above what the RRP was as well... unlike the Heritage versions!!! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

I've got one, in Bering Grey and Black, and it is worth every penny of the price!
It's hard to understand the car until you are in it and even try it but they have done a great job with it - the leather work is amazing quality and the mechanical upgrades make it very useable. I think the price of these may fall a bit but in time they will be recognised as the rarest of the celebration series and maybe the best factory Defender money could buy. |
