Depends on what kind of a repair job you want. A bit of Filler and an aerosol can probably won't get your sandwiches made again (also forget any of the other). It is scarily amazing how much a proper body shop job will cost. First of all get a quote and then make the decision. The cut off point will be how much you pay for insurance and how much you think your insurance may go up by claiming?

Good advice from Rashers. It depends also on the age and intrinsic value of the BMW itself? Get a quote and you will probably discover that the resultant quote will make the decision for you.
Alternatively post the quote together with a picture of the damage on here for further debate should it be needed. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

How do you claim damages from your insurance for "withdrawn from lovemaking"? I think such damage is not included in our all risk policies here. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Does she have protected NCB? This may have some bearing on your choice. In my experience even if she makes a no fault claim her premium will be loaded for subsequent years even if her NCB doesn't suffer. It's not like your insuarnce provider are in the risk business, some you lose, some you win, its all win- win for them . I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

I'd not claim, it could cost you or her? More for years and years to come.
Depends what damage is included to how much it will cost you. A lot of parks aren't repairable anyway, then need painting, so maybe something you should consider doing yourself. I.e. Swapping a panel or two or stat ever is damaged. Deoends hoe much you compare your time to paying out tough if you have time to do it yourself. Get the painting done for you though I'd say unless its damage. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ¥ó ®ó §ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ³ó £ó ´ó ¿ðŸ‡®ðŸ‡ªðŸ‡ºðŸ‡¸â›½ï¸ðŸ›¢ï¸âš™ï¸ðŸ§°ðŸ’ª |

Unless you intend to claim, and unless you've already done so, do NOT seek advice from your insurance company. Next-door-neighbour reversed into her own gatepost, 'phoned the insurance company and then decided not to claim - hubby replaced the lamp, scratches on the bumper remain. Next year's insurance was increased due to the “incident”, even though no insurance claim was made.

^^^^ Sounds about right, and the year after and the next and they'll even try and colab if and when you go to switch or try and bring your NCB down. No Guts, No Glory.

What no one seems to have picked up on is that your tractor isn't insured and the accident was your fault.
If she claims on her insurance the BMW will all get fixed up no problem but YOU are still the cause of the damage and the insurer will seek to recover their costs from the person at fault. So your wife will have a claim logged, if the insurers recover their costs from you and she recovers any excess from you, it will be flagged as non fault and she wont lose no claims bonus, but you'll still end up paying for the repair. Keep the insurers well out of it and look for an affordable body shop option yourself. 3 Landrovers |

^^^^^This is spot on advice, was just about to say the same thing. However you cut it, you were at fault and the car insurer would pursue you personally for their outlay. This is just the same as if you were insured, except that there isn't an insurer picking up the bill for your liability.
Their outlay is likely to be more than you could get the repairs done for, especially if you make it clear to the repairer it's not an insurance job... |

Thanks to everyone who has responded. One of the reasons for posing the question to you guys in the first place was that we didn't want to approach the insurance company in case they logged the incident.
Having now had a chance to also look at the excess on the policy (£500 excess) it looks like I'm going to have to pay the cost of the damage and drive more carefully next time. It would really pee me off if we claimed on the insurance, paid £500 excess then have the insurers claim against me for the repair AND costs and also see a hike in insurance premium for the next few years. Anybody know if you can buy rubber bumpers for a John Deere? Thank you all for your advice. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |
