2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black

Heated Seats - Not working

Have concluded the original heated seats in the 2007 CSW are not working on bases or backs.

Both switches illuminate and a quick visual check reviled no fault with the connections or wires at the seat end, what should I be looking for?

What reading should I get on a meter at the plugs into the seat bases?

How many wires go into the seat base?

If 2, then I'd expect around 8V on Low power and 12V on high power.

If more, then I'd expect 12V on different pins dependent on the power level.

Unplug the seat from the seatbox connector.

With the switch on check the voltage at the connector on the seatbox - should be battery voltage (approx 12V). Take care not to short out the pins when doing this, it will blow the fuse,

Check the resistance across the seat connector. Should be a few Ohms (can't remember off the top of my head).

Open circuit means a broken heater element, thermal switch or wire inside the seat.

I repaired one of the seats I put in my soft top, a wire had snapped inside the backrest.

LR factory seats have only 1 setting - On. OK OK or off

And there was me assuming they had low and high like the aftermarket stuff!

Thanks all.

Martin, can I assume if the switch is illuminating, inc. the amber light when switched on, the fuses are OK?

Correct, the orange "on" lamp won't come on if the fuse has gone. The illumination is separate.

Don't mean to hijack your post but my TD5 heated seats have a problem too drivers side not working but passenger does,
Swapped the seat bases round and drivers base does work plugged passenger base into drivers and not working, what gets priority though back part then base or both powered simultaneously?

I had a defective heater on the driver side.. It was caused by a split seat foam insert, that caused the wire to the bi-metallic switch to snap..
Replaced the seat foam, and resoldered the wires.. All OK now..

Just for info, the heater pads in my Puma are 2.5 ohms each, so that makes 5 ohms at 14.4v for the base and back (engine running) that equates to 2.88amps, or 41 watts of heat.... ... ,-------,
