Hi Landgirl
Sounds similar to TC's recent problem too..... Have a look here .... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5957.html Sounds like you may have a similar problem.... Is your battery the original one from new ??? Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

The fuel pump should be off.
Under the drivers seat is a row of three / four relays, the fuel pump one is yellow (could be more than one yellow under there) The relay should trun on when the key is in position 2 and off in position 1 or off. Put your finger on the relay and feel for the click, if its stuck on, unplug and replace, be sure that the new relay is correclty seated, the plugs arnt very good. |

Thanks Paul, I turned the ignition on and the relay clicked and the pump ran, but when I turn the ignition off the pump continued to run even though the relay relay clicked again I could hear the pump gradually slowing down as the power in the battery fell. So does this point to the relay? And now possibly a new battery as I don't know if it will survive. |

Just an update,
Replaced the fuel pump relay, after being on charge most of the day it started. I have noticed that sometimes when I switch the car off the fuel pump continues to run. If I start up again and then turn off, the pump stops. So what could be activating the relay to make the pump run? Could it be an ignition fault? Any ideas? |

I have looked at the scematic for the fuel pump wireing,it apears that the fuel pump relay coil get its positive from the ignition relay, and it neg from the engine control module on a blue/violet wire, it might be worth checking this with a meter.
Also, for the pump to run the main relay would have to be "on" so maybe its the main relay stuck on, to check this meter the brown/orange wire on the fuel pump relay with the ignition off, if you have voltage there the main relay is stuck on. If you dont have a meter just use a 12v bulb or tester. |

Just to finish,
Thanks to all the advise I was given, Tried all suggestions, everything was as it should be. The only thing that I can put it do to was A Parot (blue tooth device) which was in my husbands disco park next to my defender. We removed it from the disco and since then I've had no problems. (Touch wood) It seems that the parot was communicating with my TD5. So If you get some weird and wonderful things happen to your TD5, make sure there's no PAROTs around. xx |
