Anyone purchased a CV joint recently?
Evening,

I need to change the right side cv joint this weekend as it is clicking and getting worse. Also both swivel seals are leaking and there is a bad wobble developing at speed Sad MOT due. Any suggestions and prices for cv joints welcome, I am after reasonable quality but no need for HD.

Also is there is anything else worth looking over whilst im going the swivel seals? I have watched all the videos on youtube and looked at the workshop manual so I may well disassemble and inspect this weekend and then fit new parts the following weekend.

Thanks

James

Hi.
When I rebuild my axles 12 months ago, my local garage recommended using Bearmach CV's as opposed to Sh!tp~rt ones. The owner used to trial RTV and CCV as well as being a Land Rover specialist garage. So far no complaints or issues, they just quietly get on with what they're supposed to do.

^^ agree.

Just did the whole dang lot on a TDCi.

Looking at this:

I replaced parts: 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 (including 17, 18 ), 16, 19, 20 (top and bottom), 21, 23 and the swivel seal and seal retainer which aren't numbered for some reason. Also all the appropriate gaskets...

Was going to do 15, but the originals were fine, so I left them be on the stub axles (they look quite hard to remove). In fact lots of parts didn't need replacing but since I was going in I wanted to be prepared for the worst, it was really the swivel housing that was the issue, both the of the old ones had pitting on the surface which lead to the lubricant leaking. Also the shafts were 'rust-welded' to the flanges so they had to go before I lost drive one day. The CV themselves were fine however.

Swapped from stake nut to two-nut system also, working well.

Went with Bearmach for the CV's, and swivel bearings and pins - had to resort to britpart for the flanges and swivel but critically I went with the 'OEM' version, which according to the internet aren't Britpart's shoddiest. Everything else is Corteco (seals), LR genuine (rotors) and similarly 'OEM'. FWIW the Britpart castings looked solid and the finish quite fine, everything was nice and snug and aligned well - driving fine for months now, we'll see... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
