Throttle signal from ECU?
Is there a Throttle signal from the td5 ECU?

I am a very pleased user off a PSI powerbox. I only use it when I really need the power while off-roading so I currently have it behind a switch.
I have now the idea to have it only working at full throttle. I bought a small piece off electronics in China Twisted Evil for 6 euro's Shocked that enables me to take the voltage from the throttle position sensor and set the switch voltage to just below the full throttle voltage. say 4.6 V. orso.

But I thought that as the same ecu is used in a Dosco2 td5 automatic there might be a full throttle signal coming from the ECU to instruct the autobox to kick down. Does anyone know this?

Thanks in advance.

I edited the title as I don't need a full throttle signal. A normal throttle signal will wotk for me. Roel

I think, that in D2 auto the communication between engine ECU and auto gearbox ecu is over CAN bus, so no direct controlling signals.
In Rave there is description of the gas pedal with the proposed outputs (resistance, voltage). "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

No CanBus on Disco 2.

And what are the 2 twisted wires between engine ECU and auto gearbox ECU? And the CAN drivers inside the engine ECU for D2 with auto gearbox? The CAN bus is there, but only for communication between these two ECUs, nothing more. And no, it is not connected to the OBD plug.
CAND driver components are no soldered in TD5 ECUs for car s with manual gearbox - this and the software in the ECU are the main differences. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Yes you are right there is a canbus between the EAT ECU and the engine ECU and that also sends the throttle position over the canbus to the EAT ECU.

I know I can take a voltage from the throttle position cable so I could tap in the right cable and get the right voltage but and free pin on the ecu connector would be preferable.

I didn't have the Rave for the disco II but now I have. I didn't see a pin layout off the Defender ecu with the unused in a Defender mentioned.

As far as I know the TD5 Disco II engine ECU and the Defender td5 ECU are the same just some software differences.

Is there a throttle position voltage going to the ABS and TC ECU's that I don't have.? I'll have a look. Mr. Green Roel

Well every day is a schoolday!

I didn't know that, and should with hindisght have written, "no CANbus on manual Disco2".

My RAVE has confirmed that CAN is used on D2 auto only, for comms between the EAT ECU and ECM, CAN- is on pin A32 on the ECM, CAN+ on A35 for the TD5 ECM. Circuit diagrams show that the bus connects ECM A32/A35 to EAT ECU C0193 16/44 respectively and nowhere else. The circuit diragrams do not indicate these to be twisted pair, though clearly they must be.

I cannot however see anything to suggest that there is a full throttle output on the ECM.

Thinking about this I don't really need a full throttle signal. Just a voltage throttle signal would work. I saw also a multi data signal from the defender ECU to the ABS ecu that includes throttle position. Roel

I compared the ecu connections between the Defender and the Disco2 and found out that the most are the same. That didn't suprise me. Very Happy
However I found several pins that are not used is a defender or discovery but are connected to the main board off the ECU. I couldn't see if the were really electronically connected however.

Does anyone know more about the following Ecu connections?

Redplug pin:
2
9
12
14
15
28

and black plug pin:
8
28
31

Thanks Roel
