I reordered this friday by phone. Discount was applied without asking as my previous order was recognised. Should be here Monday according to FedEx tracking. Spot on service every time so far.

Castrol’s recommendation for my pre-cat truck is Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 A5, the same for my Duratec-engined Mog.
Opie’s offer of 4 litres + 1 litre free less DEF2 Discount, works out at 15 litres for £80.86. Ordered yesterday, free delivery today, what more could you want? Peter |

I'm afraid I have to take issue with these 'warm words' about Opie.
I've used them in the past (I assume happily) so thought I would again. Built up a shopping cart of about £80. Remember, "Free shipping in the UK for orders over £75". Shipping? "That'll be £35". Eh? I thought I was still on the UK mainland? IV postcode, near Inverness. Now I know that if you click on the "Free shipping" linky, it's qualified to exclude Grampian and Highlands -but you need to click on it. At first glance it's misleading to say the least. If I was at the far end of a single track road, up a remote glen, or on a distant island involving a 3 hour ferry crossing, this might have some logic. However, the A9 for all its faults is a major trunk road; and all of the courier networks have depots in town anyway. So, I'll need to find someone else to supply oils who doesn't try to mislead their customers. I think the weight of the shipment was up to about 12kg - but I know from experience I can post something like that for £10 - £14. That I could have accepted - even leaving aside the "free shipping" claim - but £35 is nonsense. Anyone know of any other good oil suppliers? Yes, this is a rant... but I'm afraid I do think it is important to point this out to save anyone else wasting their time if they are in the "wrong" geography. Have you tried contacting them directly?
If they use the same couriers all the time I guess it may be a stipulation of them (couriers) as opposed to Opie themselves. |

Yes, I did contact them directly and it's probably fair to them to summarise their response here.
Basically they are changing from one courier to another. Timescales meant they had to go with the stipulated FedEx rates, even if they weren't happy. Because of the high FedEx charges they are also setting up RoyalMail tracked options, just that they are not there yet. They did offer as a 'one off' to try and do something for me outside the system (but I'd already gone elsewhere). They also agreed that the "free UK shipping" was misleading and have asked their IT team to have a look at that. Meanwhile another seller, in Darlington, got my entire 30L order to me for a shipping cost of £6.95+VAT. So I think I'd agree that these are short-term issues, and it was just "bad timing" on my part - but I'd also still feel that their customer-facing messaging left a bit to be desired. Hope that's fair.
