I would suspect lots and lots of abuse if any other ex-military equipment I have bought is an indicator, however they are pretty strong wheels and I was going to insist on checking them true before paying for them due to their provenance. I also like the "pre-owned" look and shy away from anything too shiny as i'll only scratch and dent it anyway and then be horrified with what i've done ...
My purchasing plans however have been sidetracked somewhat, so i'll be sticking with my set of Wolf wheels for now. |

Bearing in mind that (a) most second-hand Blindos fetch near-new prices, (b) Silverline does a pretty good deal if you buy a fuill set, and (c) would you really want to trust your life to wheels with an unknown history, I'd suggest you contact Silverline for a price. You'll get the offset and colour you want, in pristine condition for a figure that may not be much more than second hand.

What happens when you buy a used car - those wheels also have an unknown history. Would you suggest all used cars have untrustworthy wheels that must be replaced upon purchase? The same goes for tyres, if not more so. Much more vulnerable. I'm really not looking for an argument here, and i'm sure your first two points are spot on, but I question the third. |

No, actually I am not bothered since if I buy second-hand wheels (and in the past I have done this) I will assess them before using them. I was really picking up on the point that someone had made earlier in the thread suggesting that ex-military wheels are likely to be somehow or other dangerous due to the use they have received, which is not an argument to which I subscribe. Some may be, but most will be no more heavily used than any civvy wheel. If the "don't buy it because it is ex-military" argument has any merit, the "don't buy it because you don't know what it's been used for" has equal merit.
My main point was that my personal view is that given that brand new Blindos are unlikely to be much more than second hand ones, brand new may well be a more attractive option and certainly worth investigating. |

Couldn't agree more. I run ex-MoD wheels, which were inspected before tyres were fitted to ensure (as far as can be told) they were good.
Ex-Military equipment is entirely variable in my experience - some ex-reserve and pristine, some in the middle, and some entirely badgered, as was the case in the "long-drop" 110 that I worked on - victim of an unopened parachute, it ended up around 30cm tall. I think we managed to salvage just the crankshaft and bumperettes from that one ... |

My Tithonus refurb is nearing completion. Currently running 35" bfg's but I think black blindos with 285's would finish it off
