I actually had a monitored tracker system fitted to my last car from new. I cannot remember exactly how I noticed but for some reason the tracker had stopped working for about a month unnoticed under warranty. It then came to my attention an insurance line not dissimilar to above ref tracker must be working if declared. From that point onwards I never declared my tracker but it remained fitted. After all they never gave any discount but in effect penalised me for my effort. Food for thought.

“fireworks at Alton Towers this year… doesn't ding my door (of course they did). This year my first thought was.. is the car even likely to still be there when we get out?”

I don't worry about car park collateral damage, statistically there will be. Latest tally to the Defender - rubber thing on the end of the bumper ripped off (wot must that have done to the other car?), dents on two doors and a really bad gouge near the fuel fuller; Skoda - rear passenger door completely caved in, two grand quote for new door; Up! - dent on driver's door and rear nearside door; Morgan - front wing gouged and dented, I suspect someone sat on it to have a photo taken, rivets on jeans did the rest, a dent on the bonnet and a supermarket trolley scrape along the rear offside wing.

I don't worry about theft, statistically the car will still be where I left it. To paraphrase Epictetus: I may be sick and yet happy, in peril and yet happy, dying and yet happy, in exile and happy, in disgrace and happy. And if my truck gets stolen off my drive I'll still be happy!

And I don't worry about being murdered, 600 homicides and 6,000 suicides yearly means I'm ten times more likely to kill myself.
