I'm not sure if the Defender is the same set up?
I had an early 2 door Range Rover 3.5 on carbs that had the same symptoms as you describe. It turned out to be the small pick up filter in the tank, which was getting blocked when demanding more fuel on demand. It became apparent when I rigged up a temporary fuel supply to rule out everything else. I removed the old pick up filter, and replaced it with a plastic gauze filter from a spray gun. Never missed a trick after that! Also worth checking if the pump is actualy working at full flow too. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

The Defender setup will be pretty much the same, I'll take a look at the pickup filter when I next get the chance. When I went to the garage last time they used a fuel pressure meter and it appear to be at the correct pressure, they couldn't test it under load though. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

So to update the situation, I'm not having a problem with fuel pressure. The next thing that draws my attention is the electronics, I have bought a brand new distributor to see if it solves the problem. Will update again once fitted and tested. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon
