earlier 200/300 heater fans do fit with a small amount of wo
I'm posting this in the hope it may help someone else out.

Recently my heater fan died on my 2003 td5. I went on the net/local indie to find that fans for the earlier defenders were about 70 quid and for my td5 it was £280!!

The reason being you can't buy a td5 heater fan separate and have to buy a full heater box and matrix.


Everything I could find on the net said they wouldn't fit due to different electrical connections blah blah blah.....

Well they do fit. The difference isn't the electrical connections, it's the shape of the plate on the fan. On a td5 it is round with 6 or 8 equidistant bolt holes, on a earlier one it's like a hacked up oval with 6 differently spaced holes for bolting it on.

To make it fit I ground off a few of the studs on my heater box and drilled into the box using the new fan as a template. I then riveted the new one in place using the new holes I'd drilled. The fan backing plate covers the wrong td5 holes bar one which I put a rivet in.

Total extra time about 10 mins and a saving of £210!! 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
