Hey ho! You'll love it, with the 6 speed box it makes long journeys much easier. I had mine waxoyled from new - for the sake of 250 it's piece of mind, especially where you live! I wouldn't worry too much about issues, the 3 year warranty coupled with LR Assist (over here anyway) is comprehensive. The Puma engine should be good for a long time, being a Transit derivative. I have a couple of minor oil seepages at 12k miles - pinion and diff seals, but these were picked up at the service, under warranty.

Welcome to Switzerland!!! It is a great place to be, at least over here in Zurich area. Make sure that you get the undercarriage protected, they salt the Shi-ite out of the roads here...until it runs out.... 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

Welcome to the Defender Puma forum.
I had my LHD 90, bought in Gibraltar, Kleentec'd to reduce the rust as where I live there is substantial salt spray. I can report that since I bought my truck (2007), the underbelly is as clean and rust free as a whistle. Also, no need to powerwash to remove mud, etc as the crud does not stick to the Kleentec. Kleentec is only applied to new vehicles by Chris at 'Before 'n' After' near Rugby. and he gives you a long warranty with periodic inspection. Would consider this if I were you! have fun El pepe flamenco JLS 'El Pepe Flamenco' |

He should give a long warranty at the prices, I looked at this process when they were local to me at Newbury, Kleentect is undoubtedly a good process and takes a week to apply, however at 1,500 for a 90 and 1,700 for a 110 plus VAT they can 'kiss my swingers!' You could theoretically get 4 treatments from Mike at Rustmasters for the same price or one treatment and have a further 1,300 (if it's a 90) left over in comparison to spend on your vehicle. Even Kleentect waxoyl treatment prices are quite a bit higher than Rustmaster. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Yep, expensive it may be - but top notch and as you say it has a 10 year guarantee with buy back!!!
Besides, the process is far superior than rustmaster. You only get what you pay for and if you are forking out all that dosh for a new Defender (renown for rusting) investing in a sound process is the way to go. tra-la-lu El Pepe flamenco JLS 'El Pepe Flamenco' |

Jlerra,
Agree in principle with your sentiments "You do indeed get what you pay for" nevertheless sense and sensibility for me must prevail. It also depends on how long you intend keeping your vehicle and what you expect for it on resale. In mitigation with waxoyl Rustmaster you do not get a 10 year guarantee - you get a five year one! Waxoyl Rustmaster 430 (last year's approximate price for a 90 with site discount) - Kleentect treatment 1,762:50 Waxoyl Before-n-after 540 For me personally it's a 'no brainer' and in all likelihood at the five year point my vehicle will be someone elses! Chris from Before-n-after was throwing his teddies a little and singing his own praises here: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic764.html If money was not of any concern instead of teflon Chris would be using gold plate on mine - bling bling!! Many, many people have had a multitude of varying different problems and there are also people who have had none at all (or very few). I am one of the latter. There is no definitive list that you can expect or that I have seen....Minor ones... Headlamp retaining rings rusting....front bumper flaking underneath....EGR Valve sticking...Not so minor ones...Damp carpets...doors not fitting correctly... blah! blah!blah! Do a search using keywords such as 'New Puma' and 'Problems' and you will see more than you would wish for. Ultimately get to know your beast, find a problem and either search for it on here or post it and the site members will fall over themselves to help you, myself included. Welcome to the site! Enjoy your Defender and long may it be...problem free! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
