Going to get some DRLs for my 110 but ideally want to keep clear of those horrid little voltage sensing units which cost Ł7 off eBay... Is there a way to get an "engine is running" rather than an ignition feed somewhere?
Or are there good quality controllers available if you know where to look? don't need anything fancy - just on with engine, off with sidelights Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

No-one have a better solution than a voltage sensing box? Cheers, David

Don’t know if this will be of any help but if you are looking for a live engine running feed I took one off the main power relay under the driver’s seat. It was easier to run the wires through the cubby box from this location to where my switch panel was mounted for controlling the DRLs. See below its part of a post off the LR4X4 forum. The guy that helped me was PaulMc I could not have come up with this without his help. ============================================================================== Sat13 has informed me that he couldn't get the WN wire from C1040-14 to C1624 to trigger a standard automotive relay. I've asked around, and it would seem that the WN wire only provides a 'signal voltage' to the electronic HFS Timer, it's incapable of providing sufficient current to drive the coil of a relay. I was told that a better place to pickup an 'engine running' supply under the driver's seat, would be from the main power relay, which is switched by the engine ECU, which detects the engine running/charging, from connections to the alternator. I've had a look at the PUMA Wiring Diagram and Electrical Library, and this would be the relays output on - C0063-87 (Brown/Orange wire) Sat13 has confirmed to me that the Brown/Orange wire on C0063-87 is only live when the engine is running and that it's capable of triggering a standard automotive relay. ============================================================================== This worked well for me and it’s been in use now for a few years. With no problems operating my DRLs. Regards to all Fletch. |

I have a hella DRL. its the smart type that can detect if your engine is running etc..
so I simply wired the DRL to the alternator in my puma 2.2 (permanent live) and ground. also connect the third wire to my side marker. thats it. I do not need to get the wire via the rubber grommet and fishing behind the dash. works a treat for 1 year now |

The "smart" boxes are pretty similar to a basic split charge relay.

I just don't like the voltage sensing ones, I'd rather use a proper relay and feed based system Cheers, David
